Send A Raven: Game of Thrones’ Hodor is a DJ

hodor-game-of-thrones

Fans of Game of Thrones will know actor Kristian Nairn for his portrayal of the the simple gentle giant Hodor, defender and transporter of young Bran Stark who was paralyzed after…well, never mind…you’ll just have to watch the HBO show or read George RR Martin’s books to find out more. When Nairn isn’t acting, he’s apparently a working and successful DJ/producer/musician in his native Ireland. According to his website, the Belfast-based Nairn “has tread the boards with such acts as Scissor Sisters, Mylo, Calvin Harris and Alphabeat, as well as being part of bands such as AJ Suzuki and Dublin’s very own Daddys Little Princess.” As a producer his website reports that his remixes have been played by Freemasons and Grant Nelson while serving as a resident DJ at one of Ireland’s most popular nightclubs, Kremlin, for over a decade. So Hodar is a DJ. This begs the question: could a Big Shot Guest Mix be on the horizon?

Star 69’s Peter Rauhofer Diagnosed With Brain Tumor

Peter Rauhofer

Grammy award-winning New York City-based DJ/producer/remixer Peter Rauhofer has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, according to a post by Rauhofer’s manager, Angelo Russo, on the artist’s Facebook. The Austrian native known for his big room house records produced under the alias Club 69 (“Let Me Be Your Underwear,” “Take A Ride” featuring Connie Harvey and Jocelyn Brown), plethora of releases on his Star 69 label, remixer of an astounding array of pop tracks and work as a promoter on the gay party circuit, was diagnosed with the tumor after he suffered a seizure and was rushed to the hospital. On the post Russo wrote, “I know Peter would appreciate your kind consideration and positive energy during this extremely difficult period.” Fans have left comments of support in droves, and Russo promised to provide an update once there is more information on Rauhofer’s condition. Read the full statement below.

Dear Friends and Loyal Fans,

As Peter Rauhofer’s manager and dear friend for many years, it is my sad duty to announce that Peter was rushed to the emergency room several weeks ago. After confirming that Peter had a seizure, further testing has revealed a large brain tumor, something that has gone undiagnosed for quite some time.

At this time, Peter’s family is working closely with a team of talented Neurologists to determine the overall best treatment option. Please be assured that he is getting the absolute finest care possible, twenty-four hours a day.

I know Peter would appreciate your kind consideration and positive energy during this extremely difficult period. We will post any updates and progress reports as they become available.

Feel free to post your condolences as well as check into this page for updates.

Sincerely,
Angelo

Shlomi Aber Discusses DJ Life in Tel Aviv During Missile Strikes

The deadly missile strikes rocking Tel Aviv and Gaza this week have many across the globe shocked, but Israeli DJ/producer Shlomi Aber says the violence is “normal.”

“For us, it’s the usual for us. Same old crap,” Aber told Big Shot as missiles flew over his home just outside of Tel Aviv. “Basically we’re in the middle of this mess. It’s normal.”

Aber, who has released tracks on Ovum, Desolat and Cadenza and runs his own imprint, Be As One, was among the thousands who hunkered down at home as the missiles flew overhead last week between Gaza and Tel Aviv. Aber lives about 10 minutes from the Gaza border in a seaside Israeli town.

“It’s really mad right now over here,” he said. “It’s been a messy situation with Gaza and the Palestinians. It’s going crazy over here. They’re shooting missiles over Israel right now.”

Despite the deadly military violence, Aber was focusing on re-scheduling a U.S. tour that was cancelled because of Hurricane Sandy, as well as several new releases, including an upcoming track on Desolat’s five-year anniversary album.

“Whatever is going on in Gaza, it’s crazy,” he said. “But people are not really influenced by the political situation and they don’t let it interrupt their lives. You get used to it after so long.”

Shlomi Aber’s “Foolish Games” feat Möggli is out on December 10 via Be As One Imprint.
