Ultra Music Festival: Weekend 1, Day 2 Recap [Gallery]

umf15 weekend one day 2

With the streets flooded with young, colorful electronic music buffs taking over downtown day two of Ultra Music Festival‘s first weekend was bananas! The talent was nothing short of amazing, spread out around multiple stages, seeing the best of the best was the only thing you could do. On Ultra Worldwide, Dirty South put on a show to remember with fists pumping, people jumping and the crowd going wild. When Laidback Luke took the stage with his lazer light show, everyone had no choice but to keep their hands in the air. Just across the lawn, Knife Party’s slightly dark and heavy took the main stage pumping out out body moving beats, fire show and golden dancers only leading up to sweet sounds of Kaskade with deadmau5 closing out the night with a performance to remember (fireworks and all) and one of the best sets played all night sending the festival goers home begging for more.

Workers preparing for weekend one of Ultra Music Festival were injured yesterday. According to the Associated Press, one worker was in critical condition, another serious. The AP also reports a third worker suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, while a fourth was treated on the scene “after being shaken up by what he saw.”

UMF issued a statement about what transpired at the incident:

Today (Thursday, March 14) as preparations were being made for this weekend’s Ultra Music Festival, a section of an LED screen fell and injured two workers. Fire Rescue was on site so there was a rapid response. Festival organizers are working with, and supporting, authorities as they investigate the details behind the accident.

The fire marshal, structural engineers, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration representative, and city police and fire officials plan to review the accident scene on Friday.

Hypocrite of 2012: Deadmau5 Announces Return to Ultra Music Festival After Dissing It in Video Rant

Joel “deadmau5” Zimmerman announced today on Twitter that he was returning to Ultra Music Festival. “Well, I caved in… There was just too many of you guys asking me to play at ultra this year, so im doin it for you guys! 😉 viva la horde.”

Deadmau5’s announcement comes almost a year to since he posted a 12-minute video lashing out at Ultra Music Festival, bemoaning the competition among talent for time slots and stage production, chastizing the event’s organizers for their lack of organization skills and demanding that DJs on the bill play exclusively for them while in Miami.

“Ultra to me is the definition of insanity,” declared Deadmau5 in the video rant posted in January. “It’s doing the same fucking thing, expecting different results every time…$595 fucking dollars for a ticket? Wow, someone’s laughing to the bank.”

“I hate these fucking festival things you know…it’s a bit much. I would rather pay $100 or $50 to see my favorite act instead of doshing out $600 to see all these fucking people, most of which are playing at the same fucking time.”

Though Deadmau5 said Ultra Music Festival “is fucking awesome,” he saw it as a “pissing contest between dudes that have played all over the fucking world.”

In unrelated news, deadmau5 got engaged this week to Kat Von D. Mazel tov.
