Premiere: Midival Punditz – “Baanwarey”

Midival Pundit

Almost two decades into their career Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj, the guiding hands behind New Delhi’s Midival Pundit, take their artistry to the next level on their fourth album, Light.

The confluence of bombastic electronic music spiced with elements of rock and heavy helpings of Indian folk (Rajasthani, Punjabi, Carnatic and Uttar Pradesh), Light is their first performance-based concept record.

We’re thrilled to world premiere the second cut off Light, “Baanwarey,” which was specifically tailored by the duo for the dance floor.

Featuring the voice of Rajashtani folk singer Kutle Khan (Midival Punditz previously collaborated with Khan on “Twilight” and won their first GIMA Award, India’s version of the Grammy’s, earlier this year), “Baanwarey” has been a staple in their DJ and live sets for the past two years.

Listen to the world premiere below and be sure to check out Light when it’s released on April 28 via Six Degrees.

Midival Punditz’s album release party featuring Ajay Prasanna, Malini Awasthi, Shardul Mehta, Karan Sharma, IP Singh & Kutle Khan Project takes place at Summer House Cafe in New Dehli, India, on April 17.

Premiere: Mystery Tour Minimix – Jerry Bouthier Selects & Mixes Emerald & Doreen’s Catalogue

Jerry_Bouthier

In the same way sharks need to keep moving in order to stay alive, DJs are on a constant hunt for new sounds.

Just ask musical explorer Jerry Bouthier.

Known for his work with Kitsuné as well as running Continental Records and serving as half of JBAG with Andrea Gorgerino, the musically curious London-based Frenchman began receiving a selection of interesting promos from eclectic and highly prolific German imprint Emerald & Doreen. Run by Markus Schneider and Stefan Maurer (The Robot Scientists) and Eric Schemer (Go Nogo), the imprint’s musical manifesto extends beyond musical boundaries — downtempo, electro-pop, dub, techno, indie, Ital house and more — and operates completely on its own DIY terms. As the promos kept on coming — over 500+ releases issued in just three years — Bouthier became more intrigued.

In what will undoubtedly shine more light on Emerald & Doreen’s vast catalogue, Bouthier puts his fandom to the test by mixing Mystery Tour, a 21-track compilation providing a snapshot into the label’s musical world, featuring tracks from E&D acts including the aforementioned The Roboto Scientists and Go Nogo as well as Spirit Animal, Dead Sea Captains, Nikita Soul and Haioka.

Here’s the world premiere Bouthier’s minimix of tracks from Mystery Tour. Consider it an appetizer for a life changing musical meal.

Premiere: Joeski – “Come On”

joeski erotic sessions poker flat

Thanks to our world premiere of Joseki‘s “Come On,” which is culled from his upcoming Erotic Sessions EP, today should be renamed Great Friday.

The venerable New York City house master, a veteran DJ/producer whose work has been released on choice labels such as Defected, Desolat, Kling Klong and Suara, returns to the Poker Flat camp with a smashing effort.

“Come On” is deep, techy insanity. The track is deliciously dark, the bass is uncompromisingly slow and heavy, and one wonders if the speeding car sound effects are samples of Joeski racing along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in the wee hours of the morning.

No matter how you slice it “Come On” is as an intense boil as they come.

Joeski’s Erotic Sessions EP is released April 6, 2015 on Poker Flat Recordings.
