Premiere: B3D – “I Want You”

B3D

What happens when you bring together a skilled engineer who has worked at one of the most legendary studios in New York City (with a CV that includes everyone from Kanye West to Mary J. Blige) and and a classically trained musician with a Master’s Degree in piano? Well, it’s not just a hypothetical question, it’s a real-life duo.

As B3D, Bruno Sutter and Deborah Robb bring together a broad range of skills to create a sound that’s pretty far from Robb’s classical background, but still pretty damn sophisticated-sounding. On the duo’s first track to include their own vocals, they work up a shifting landscape of shimmering synth textures in order to redefine the old Beatles tune “I Want You,” transforming it from a howling, bluesy cry of desperation into a sleek, slinky, come-hither whisper.

Premiere: Pan-Pot – “Punxsutawney” (Alan Fitzpatrick Remix)

It’s been quite a week of premieres here at Big Shot HQ. After debuting an array of awesome tracks and videos by Cuartero, Tsaik, beGun and Bimas, we close out the week in a big way by unveiling Alan Fitzpatrick‘s breathtaking remix of Pan-Pot’s “Punxsutawney.”

Featured on the duo’s The Other Remixes out on December 14 via Second State, Fitzpatrick (read our exclusive interview with him here) and a select coterie of remixers including Carl Cox, Extrawelt and Nicole Moudaber reimagine tracks from the Berlin twosome’s acclaimed The Other album.

On “Punxsutawney” Fitzpatrick reimagines the downtempo track in the context of minimal techno, slowly building his iteration with tense percussion and injecting singer Frankie’s vocals over his signature dark groove at precisely the right moment.

This re-rub is truly special. Hit the play button below and find out for yourself.

Video Premiere: Tsaik – “Tehraj”

tsaik

If we attempted to describe the video for Tsaik’s new single, “Tehraj,” you’d probably think we were just tripping our asses off on some obscure hallucinogenic concoction, so we won’t even try to detail the weird, wondrous visions that occupy the clip. Words wouldn’t do them justice anyway, and you can easily see the whole thing for yourself below. The song that goes along with it is appropriately kaliedoscopic, full of gleefully glitchy twists and turns, and hypnotic in an endlessly engaging way. Influenced by everyone from Bonobo and Burial to Boards of Canada (and even a few folks whose names don’t start with “b”), the Chicago duo of 20-year-olds Jacob McArthur and Joshua Ruffolo have crafted a sound that’s at once accessible and otherworldly. Brought to you by the Lost Tribe label, “Tehraj” and its accompanying remixes from Nuara, Pamina and SUGARQUOTE are like glimpses of an alternate reality that just might be a hell of a lot more fun than the one we’re living right now.

Premiere: Cuartero – “Shadow”

CUARTERO-49 - copia

Since Spanish house heavyweight Cuartero embarked upon his career as a DJ/producer in 2011, he’s stamped his larger-than-life musical personality onto records released by Desolat, Hot Creations and others, but his latest recording for the Moon Harbour label is an EP that underlines his knack for crafting big, booming, basslines and irresistibly gargantuan grooves.

Set for a December 18 release, Cuartero’s Shadow is a three-song EP that rounds out the title track with “Elevator” and “Been So Long,” all of which turn out to be the kind of tracks that give clubgoers what they long for — a sweaty, sensual sound that makes it all but impossible to avoid dancing. And when you’ve got a groove like the one from “Shadow” (streaming below) going for you, why would you ever dream of not dancing to begin with?
