Daft Punk‘s eagerly awaited new album now has a title and release date. The follow-up to 2005’s Human After All is a 13-track affair now known as Random Access Memories — allow us to be the first to refer to the album as RAM — is available for pre-order on iTunes. News of the album’s release comes after news spread earlier in the week that the French duo comprised of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s label had registered 13 songs with music licensor PPL. Previously the duo teased fans with a 15-second commercial during an episode of Saturday Night Live and placing posters up in New York, Miami and other cities.

[Video] Giorgio Moroder Talks Daft Punk Collaboration: “Thomas Is A Genius, A Real Perfectionist”

Giorgio Moroder

Disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder has spoken about his collaboration with Daft Punk. On a video released today, which arrives after the commerical for the twosome’s new album aired on U.S.  television, Moroder, speaking in German, reveales details about his recording sessions with the famed French dance duo. “I worked with them for two, three hours in the studio, I told them about my life,” Moroder says. He adds that at the time he had no idea what they group had in mind for his story….”but I [thought] Thomas [had] an idea how to put my voice into Daft Punk.” Moroder describes about a recording session where he was asked to speak into three microphones: one from the ’50s, 60’s, one from the ’70s and a new one. He asked the engineer the purpose of speaking into microphones from so many different eras. “He said… we use the first one when you are talking about your childhood, the second when you are talking about your work and the third one is for the future.” Morder asked: “Who is going to notice the difference?” The engineer replied, “Thomas is going to hear the difference.” Mororder concludes the interview by saying, “Thomas is a genius, a real perfectionist.” When asked if Moroder shares the same recording mindset, he quickly replied, “No, not at all.” Watch the legend tell the story in the video below.

Video: Did You See Daft Punk’s TV Commercial Last Night During SNL?

Daft-Punk-Columbia

Those watching last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by comedian Kevin Hart were treated to something special in between comedy sketches and musical performances by guest Macklemore and Ryan Lewis: a teaser commercial for Daft Punk‘s upcoming album. The 15-second spot aired only days after the group updated its website to feature one image of its trademark robot helmets with Columbia Records’ logo emblazoned on the bottom right-hand corner.

Daft Punk’s ad featured a disco-style groove and funky guitar line, which many on social media suspect belongs to Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers since he has blogged openly about collaborating with the French duo. No additional information such as a release date were included in those precious seconds. What fans can expect next from Daft Punk is anyone’s guess: A surprise show? Rush release of their new album? Who knows. But whatever the case you’ve got to give them credit for keeping the lead up to their next album extremely exciting and interesting. Have a look at the commercial below.

Daft Punk’s Website Now Has Columbia Records Logo

Daft Punk Columbia

Today Daft Punk reminded us that a picture is still worth a thousand words by updating their website to include one of their trademark robot helmets with Columbia Records’ logo, thus confirming their signing to the label which was leaked in January. The duo — Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter — posted no other additional information about their much-anticpated next album rumored to be due in the Spring. What we do know is that famed Chic producer Nile Rodgers has worked on the as-yet unnamed full-length along with Giorgio Moroder, singer-songwriter Paul Williams, bassist Nathan East and Feist collaborator Chilly Gonzales.
