ME & her’s India Tour Diary

Earlier in the year we introduced you to Swiss misses ME & her, a rising Zurich-based techno DJ/producer duo composed of Phuong and Jen, just as they were about to release their three-track Lost EP on OFF Recordings. Since then they’ve continued to blaze trails in the DJ booth and production front. When we found out the twosome had played a mini tour of India, we asked them to document their experiences exclusively for Big Shot.

“We didn’t really know what to expect from the scene and the people there,” they tell us about their first excursion to India. “But we found out that they are huge techno fans and that India is definitely a country where we want to play again. We loved it!”

The Travel
We actually had seven flights in four days. That was a little bit of a challenge but also very adventurous.

Our route was:
Day 1: Zurich – Dubai – Mumbai – Hyderabad
Day 2: Hyderabad – Mumbai
Day 3: Mumbai – Delhi
Day 4: Delhi – Dubai – Zurich

The first day we travelled 24 hours in total, and when we arrived at the hotel we just had to leave again to play our first show. But before Hyderabad, and during our stopover in Mumbai, the promoter took us out to a lovely Indian restaurant where we had our first authentic Indian food. After the meal we got some Kachi Keri offered which is an after-meal digestive aid. Jen liked them so much that she had six of them. In general you should have only two of them to digest. Later Jen felt that her stomach might have had a few too many of them [laughs].

Catz N Dogz’s Movement Festival Diary

Detroit’s Movement Electronic Music Festival is one of the most important techno festivals in the world. Each year luminaries from the genre descend upon the city to celebrate techno’s past, present and future during an amazing weekend.

When we found out Polish duo Catz N Dogz (listen to our exclusive premiere of “Killing With Kindness” feat. Phat Kat) were headed to the Motor City to make their debut at the annual shindig, we asked Grzegorz Demianczuk and Wojciech Taranczuk to keep a diary of their experiences.

Not only did Demianczuk and Taranczuk succinctly capture the essence of their visit — hanging with Midland and Eats Everything to playing an after-hours party with Soul Clap — the duo snapped gorgeous black-and-white photos that are truly a sight to behold.

Soak it all up below and be sure to keep on eye out for their upcoming full-length album, Basic Colour Theory, due out shortly.

Started in Washington, D.C. full of energy! We’ve played at U Street Music Hall many times already and it’s definietly one of the most professional clubs in the US. We already have a good relationship with everybody that works there and the cool thing about the club is there is always a lot of professional dancers so we always play some broken beats and then some hip-hop at the end. If our flight from NYC hadn’t been delayed for three hours it would have been even more fun!

Catz N Dogz DEMF Photo Diary on the plane

Hello Detroit
After pre-party in D.C. on the way to Detroit, it was perfect weather for DEMF weekend. On the plane we decided that we were going to play a lot of classics, so since it’s our first time and it’s always been a dream to play there we thought this is the right way to do it! Pulled out a mashup of The Prodigy and our tune “They Frontin’.”

13 Photos From Dave Seaman’s USA DJ Tour

dj dave seaman

British dance music journeyman Dave Seaman has been on fire as of late, enjoying a aul

roductive new chapter in his career courtesy of Selador Recordings, an imprint he co-launched with Steve Parry in 2013. To date the label has issued a selection of great tunes from rising house and techno artists like Third Son,Affkt, Piemont (listen to their Big Shot Guest Mix here), and Rob Hes & Steve Slight, with more great music on the horizon. While Seaman’s touch is indeed felt (and heard) at the label, he’s also been issuing tracks on Noir, Suara and Hive Audio.

Earlier this month Seaman, whose Selador crew incidentally took over Watergate Berlin last week, headed stateside to play a trio of DJ dates: Harlot in San Francisco, Primary in Chicago and Monday Social in Los Angeles — what, no NYC gig, Dave?!

Since Seaman counts editor as part of his resumé (fun fact: he was the first editor of Mixmag), we asked him to document his brief U.S. excursion through images, a trek which included record shopping, recording and rolling in ridiculous rides. Continue Reading
