tough-love

How was 2017 for you?
Tough Love: We could sit here and say to you it’s been amazing but in truth it’s been a really full on and tough year. There have been some bumps along the road as per usual, but as always we’ve got through them. We’ve had a really busy touring schedule all over the world and we’ve been able to release more records than in past years and we’re really excited about the future.

Highlights?
Our imprint Get Twisted turning five and selling out Ministry of Sound.

Lowlights?
Working with labels that constantly let you down as an artist.

Song of the year?
We don’t think you can look past CamelPhat & Elderbrook’s “Cola.” From the moment we heard it, we knew it was an out and out hit.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
In the words of William Wallace, to take back our freedom.

Premiere: Hardsoul ft. Raphaella – Weightless (Tom Bull Mix)

Hardsoul-ft.-Raphaella-Weightless

A few months ago we chatted with Alex and Stef of London-based Tough Love, a duo whose musical point of view is informed by R&B, garage and ’90s house. At the time they had just dropped “Hold On,” a buzzy deep-house collaboration with Big Apple house icon Roger Sanchez and legendary Culture Club frontman Boy George, on their rising Get Twisted label. Cut to the first quarter of 2017 and Get Twisted continue to dominate dance floors the world over thanks to their impeccable ears.

Not ones to rest on their laurels, Alex and Stef have signed another track from noteworthy Dutch duo Hardsoul called “Weightless,” and we’re extremely pleased to world premiere UK producer Tom Bull’s remix of said tune featuring vocals from the chanteuse Raphaella.

On Bull’s interpretation he crafts a smoldering backdrop that ebbs and flows, warping Raphaella’s vocals and taking her voice into an even more dramatic direction.
