Premiere: Ursula 1000 – “Clap Your Hands”

ursula-1000

After releasing five acclaimed Ursula 1000 albums on Thievery Corporation’s Eighteen Street Lounge, which is now defunct, Brooklyn DJ/producer/musician Alex Gimeno returns with his creative guns blazing on Voyeur, a majestic and highly eclectic full-length out next month on his Insect Queen Music label.

Voyeur features party-perfect collaborations with iconic Big Apple drag star Lady Bunny, former ESL label mate Federico Aubele and bass luminary Adam Dorn (a.k.a. Mocean Worker). There’s also fantastic contributions from QDUP, Puddles Pity Party and The Lovers Key.

We’re thrilled to world premiere the funky jam “Clap Your Hands” from Voyeur, a floor rocker which navigates along the same kitschy, groove-heavy waters pioneered by Deee-Lite, Fatboy Slim and Pizzicato Five.

“With ‘Clap Your Hands’ I was definitely channeling some of that classic big-beat breaks era—total call and response groovy party track. It’s probably the most quintessential Ursula-sounding song on Voyeur,” Gimeno tells us.

Have a first listen below and keep your eyes peeled for an accompanying video directed by B.A. Miale.

“She does these crazy, trippy, playful live visuals via a keytar (!) for the likes of John Spencer Blues Explosion and Dick Dale,” says Gimeno. “She’s the perfect person to capture this wacky kaleidoscopic kiddie world.”

Catch Alex Gimeno at Union Pool in Brooklyn on October 15. Ursula 1000’s Voyeur is out October 30.

Premiere: Betoko – “Blisters” (Dub Mix)

Beto Cohen

You know the feeling that accompanies that shift between full-on party mode and post-party adjustment to the everyday world? “Hangover” might be the closest name for it, but that’s not quite right either. Well, it may not have an official name, but at least now it has a theme song, courtesy of Betoko.

The London-based deep-house hotstepper has a new single on the way, and “Blisters” was written with exactly the aforementioned vibe in mind. And just in case one cut isn’t enough to get you through the aforementioned emotional journey, Betoko’s single comes with some additional mixes, courtesy of Johannes Brecht and Third Son. You can grab yourself a first listen to the dub mix below.

Blisters is out October 2 on Hedonism Music.

Premiere: AOTOA – “Come On People” (Lindo Man Remix)

aotoa

Even though AOTOA already gained plenty of attention with his first appearance on Jalapeno Records, giving garage a makeover on a remix of Ephemerals‘ “You Made Us Change,” his upcoming single, “Come On People,” is actually his proper debut for the label. The sensual vocals, snappy synth riffs, and sneaky, syncopated beats that keep the track moving feel like indications that there’s a bright future in store for the Brighton-based producer. The single will also feature remixes from Fraems, who is half of Italy’s techno duo Aucun, and AOTOA’s fellow Jalapeno artist Lindo Man. Here’s a first listen at Lindo Man’s take on the tune, complete with spooky subversions of the female vocals and a seriously bumped-up bassline.

“Come On People” is out Sept. 25 on Jalapeno Records.

Premiere: Kocleo – “True to Say”

kocleo

Gianni Rina, better known as Kocleo, has been busy at his Rome HQ, cooking up a potent batch of techno tracks that are due to make their official entry into the world this Friday, September 11, in the form of the Pacific Time EP on Audiomatique Recordings.

The Italian DJ/producer began bringing his talents to the public when he was barely out of his teens, so by this point he’s got tons of experience blending textures, dynamics and grooves to create the ideal feel.

On the world premiere of “True to Say,” one of the most intriguing tracks on the EP, you can hear the way Kocleo deftly shifts between insistent beats and more subtle shadings, keeping the locomotion going without losing any of the atmospheric details that can be so crucial to an ear-tugging track.
