Premiere: Ursula 1000 – “Clap Your Hands”

After releasing five acclaimed Ursula 1000 albums on Thievery Corporation’s Eighteen Street Lounge, which is now defunct, Brooklyn DJ/producer/musician Alex Gimeno returns with his creative guns blazing on Voyeur, a majestic and highly eclectic full-length out next month on his Insect Queen Music label.

Voyeur features party-perfect collaborations with iconic Big Apple drag star Lady Bunny, former ESL label mate Federico Aubele and bass luminary Adam Dorn (a.k.a. Mocean Worker). There’s also fantastic contributions from QDUP, Puddles Pity Party and The Lovers Key.

We’re thrilled to world premiere the funky jam “Clap Your Hands” from Voyeur, a floor rocker which navigates along the same kitschy, groove-heavy waters pioneered by Deee-Lite, Fatboy Slim and Pizzicato Five.

“With ‘Clap Your Hands’ I was definitely channeling some of that classic big-beat breaks era—total call and response groovy party track. It’s probably the most quintessential Ursula-sounding song on Voyeur,” Gimeno tells us.

Have a first listen below and keep your eyes peeled for an accompanying video directed by B.A. Miale.

“She does these crazy, trippy, playful live visuals via a keytar (!) for the likes of John Spencer Blues Explosion and Dick Dale,” says Gimeno. “She’s the perfect person to capture this wacky kaleidoscopic kiddie world.”

Catch Alex Gimeno at Union Pool in Brooklyn on October 15. Ursula 1000’s Voyeur is out October 30.
