As 2019 draws to a close Soul Clap Records is getting ready to unveil “No Couture,” a red-hot collaboration between Ozgood, of San Fran-based dance collective Afrolicious, and legendary DJ/producer/vocalist Sa’d “The Hourchild” Ali of Parliament-Funkadelic and FSQ. The release is bittersweet as it arrives after Ali, whose uncle is George Clinton, left this mortal coil in 2018.
Over a funky-ass house groove brimming with uptempo drums, deep keys and vibes galore, Ozgood brilliantly navigates the posthumous release around a heady mish-mash of Ali’s vocals and musings.
Seriously, it’s one of the most infectious jams we’ve heard in a while.
This lyric from “No Couture” sums up Ali’s musical integrity and essence: “If I never make another dollar but live with no regrets, I’ma die a happy man.”
Listen to the world premiere below, and pick up the release when it hits stores on December 6.
Rest in EFUNK, Sa’d.
