Movement Electronic Music Festival has announced the first phase of artists playing its annual event at Detroit’s Hart Plaza taking place over Memorial Day weekend on May 25-27. While the first group of artists includes many of the usual suspects (Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson), the bill features plenty of interesting bookings including producer/saxophonist Dominic Lalli and drummer Jeremy Salker (Big Gigantic), John Digweed, Andy C, Luke Slater/Planetary Assault System (live) and bass acts Noisia, Mala and Hatcha.

Obligatory press gush from Chuck Flask, artist coordinator for the Movement Electronic Music Festival: “This year’s lineup is a reflection of artists that have been redefining electronic music for decades and those that continue to push the boundaries of the genre.”

Tickets for Movement are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting Movement’s website. The cost for a three-day weekend pass is just $79 and grants fans general admission access to the festival grounds with in-and-out privileges. The cost for a three-day VIP pass is just $199 and includes many extras that can be found on the website.

Hypocrite of 2012: Deadmau5 Announces Return to Ultra Music Festival After Dissing It in Video Rant

deadmau5

Joel “deadmau5” Zimmerman announced today on Twitter that he was returning to Ultra Music Festival. “Well, I caved in… There was just too many of you guys asking me to play at ultra this year, so im doin it for you guys! 😉 viva la horde.”

Deadmau5’s announcement comes almost a year to since he posted a 12-minute video lashing out at Ultra Music Festival, bemoaning the competition among talent for time slots and stage production, chastizing the event’s organizers for their lack of organization skills and demanding that DJs on the bill play exclusively for them while in Miami.

“Ultra to me is the definition of insanity,” declared Deadmau5 in the video rant posted in January. “It’s doing the same fucking thing, expecting different results every time…$595 fucking dollars for a ticket? Wow, someone’s laughing to the bank.”

“I hate these fucking festival things you know…it’s a bit much. I would rather pay $100 or $50 to see my favorite act instead of doshing out $600 to see all these fucking people, most of which are playing at the same fucking time.”

Though Deadmau5 said Ultra Music Festival “is fucking awesome,” he saw it as a “pissing contest between dudes that have played all over the fucking world.”

In unrelated news, deadmau5 got engaged this week to Kat Von D. Mazel tov.

DJ Shadow Receives Apology from Mansion

DJ-Shadow

DJ Shadow has received an apology from Mansion nightclub in Miami after he was taken off the decks due to not playing commercial enough music. Shadow has taken the incident in stride, tweeing: “I appreciate everyone’s support. Obviously I should have never been booked there in the first place. Square peg in a round hole, etc.” The iconic DJ/producer has promised to post the mix from the night at some point. DJ Shadow plays one more show before the end of the year on December 29 at Fort Mason Center for Wintersalt in San Francisco. Here is Mansion’s full statement.

“We offer our most sincere apologies to DJ Shadow and his fans for his set being cut short at Mansion this past weekend. This error should not have happened and will not happen again, especially as we pride ourselves on creating an environment that cultivates and respects innovators such as DJ Shadow. We have learned a lot from this error and made changes within our organization to ensure that Mansion’s vision, and the vision of our guests, will never be compromised again.” -Mansion Nightclub, Miami
