Video Premiere: Nother feat. Grecale – Dance Like An Animal

Stefano Milella

Stefano Milella cut his musical teeth producing, drumming and composing soundtracks for film and television. The Italian producer has poured his lifetime of experience into his electronic-driven solo project called Nother.

Ahead of the release of his Future Is Bright on July 22 via Abyond Music, we’re pleased to world premiere “Dance Like An Animal” featuring Grecale from the upcoming full-length.

“For this song, I tried to make the voice feel as organic as possible, and bring it closer to the sound of an instrument rather than that of a voice,” explains Milella.

“I worked mostly with my headphones on as I wanted to surround the listener with layers made of Grecale’s vocals, with one whispering behind your back as the other approaches you from the front. During the explosion, you can hear children laughing, and that was the sound that inspired ‘Dance Like an Animal.’ I recorded it in a park in Stockholm where they were playing, and I created the song around this joyful vibe, a call to play again and discover the happiness of a single moment.”

Premiere: Consolidated – Musica Sin Fronteras (R34L Remix)

Consolidated-band

Since their formation in the late ’80s, left-leaning industrial band Consolidated has used their music to serve as a platform to speak out about a wealth of societal issues, including corporate greed, fascism, homophobia, animal rights and ethnocentrism. Much of what they discussed on 1991’s landmark album Friendly Fa$cism sadly came to the forefront under America’s 45th president.

After the release of their most recent full-length album, We’re Already There, comes a remix album issued today via Austin-based eMERGENCY heARTS.

We’re thrilled to world premiere the remix of “Musica Sin Fronteras” crafted by Chicago’s woman-led electronic duo R34L. Like every note Consolidated has played during their lengthy career, their hard-hitting interpretation pulls no punches.

Review: Télépopmusik – Breathe EP 20th Anniversary Remixes (Virgin France)

Télépopmusik_Breathe_20th_Anniversary

From the moment Télépopmusik’s “Breathe” bubbled to the surface in 2001, the now ubiquitous song has soothed our collective psyche for two decades now. Whether you heard it in a club, TV commercial or browsing in a store, the juxtaposition of co-writer Angela McCluskey’s breathy, Billie Holiday-esque delivery and the dreamy track crafted by French producers 2square and Antipop is now a timeless arrangement.

Ahead of the 20th anniversary of “Breathe” comes a remix package featuring seven versions of the now-classic song. Mounika’s mix slows the proceedings down to a head nod, stripping the song down to the floorboards with acoustic piano, airy drums and McCluskey’s incomparable voice. Digitalism reimagines “Breathe” through the lens of French Touch, complete with filtered disco loops. The Kid Francescoli remix traipses around the outskirts of Italo- and indie-pop, while Juicy Cola ices the track with shovels of chill vibes. The collection is rounded out by an epic, percolating take by Krystal Klear and Speaking Mind ushering the song into the realm of electro-charged broken beat.

The anniversary remixes are enjoyable, but none equal the majesty of the original version. It’s understandable, because you can’t duplicate lightning in a bottle. Arriving near the start of the new millennium, “Breathe” continues to age well. It will no doubt continue to delight for decades more to come.

Premiere: Beatchild – Adapting

beatchild

After last year’s release of Nostalgia: Beats of 2008 – 2020, revered Canadian producer Beatchild (f.k.a. Slakah The Beatchild) is back with the red-hot Unselfish Desire EP out August 13 on BBE Music.

We’re over the moon to world premiere “Adapting” from the six-song release, a song featuring a quixotic blend of folky fingerpicking, euphoric disco strings and soulful vocals.

“‘Adapting’ is a song about false progress,” explains Beatchild (a.k.a. Byram Joseph) of the breezy summertime track.

“The music is a never-ending loop that feels like progression in how it moves from joy to sadness and back again. It’s the perfect paradox musically and I wanted the lyrics to mirror the feeling I got from the music.”
