2017 Rewind: Doorly

doorly

How was 2017 for you?
Doorly: Loads of fun. Definitely the most comfortable and in the groove I’ve felt in my career so far.

Highlights?
Starting my own label and putting some wonderful music. Being nominated in the Best House DJ category at the DJ Awards second year running alongside all my heroes. My Doorly & Friends WMC party in Miami with Kölsch, Skream, and Soul Clap on a rooftop.

Lowlights?
Donald Trump, Brexit, working on a mortgage (it went through eventually so that’s actually now become a highlight woo!).

Song of the year?
Todd Terje’s “Jungelknugen” (Four Tet Remix)

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Say no more to offers and do fewer gigs so I can spend more time at home with my family and making music. Also when on tour I can actually see some of the amazing places I go to rather than just the airport and the hotel.

Doorly 5 Tracks of the Moment

Doorly continues to march to his own beat. Back in November we told you that the inimitable DJ/producer added label head to his resumé by launching Reptile Dysfunction, a new imprint and event series, serving as a platform for his “weirder and more leftfield productions” and emerging talent.

Since issuing the label’s debut effort, “Tonga Peak Times (Confuse Dem)” featuring vocals from The Streets’ Mike Skinner, Doorly dropped Brassphemy EP on Cajmere’s Cajual Records in March. In April Reptile Dysfunction presented EP1, a dynamic collabo between Doorly and El Prevost featuring a hot remix from Hot Creations label boss Lee Foss.

Currently halfway through a global DJ tour (see full tour dates at the bottom of this post), the one-named maestro took a few moments out of his international jaunt to tell us about five fresh heavy-hitters currently dominating his DJ sets. Continue Reading

Innovative DJ/producer Doorly can now add label head to his resumé. In December he will launch Reptile Dysfunction, a new imprint and event series. The endeavor will serve both as a platform for his “weirder and more leftfield productions” and emerging talent.

The Streets’ Mike Skinner contributes vocals on the debut release “Tonga Peak Times (Confuse Dem)” out on December 23. A four-track Doorly x El Provost Collaboration EP featuring a remix from Lee Foss and others to be announced will drop in February 2017.

The label will also start a quarterly vinyl-only disco edits series called Think Sideways.

Obligatory press release gush from Doorly: “I’ve been so lucky in my career to be able to release on all of my favourite labels regularlyand have felt more than at home with my extended families at Cajual, Dirtybird and Hot Creations. But every now and then I stay up all night and make a weird track that instantly becomes my favourite thing to play out but somehow don’t fit on any of the labels I work with. As I seem to be making more and more of this kind of music, I felt the time was right to set up a label and find out if other people were into it as well as me!”
