2017 Rewind: Marcelo Demarco

Marcelo Demarco

How was 2017 for you?
Marcelo Demarco: It year was very productive for me, with ten tracks released and a four-track EP ready. I can say that I managed to develop the sound of my production and I finally reached a level which I am really happy with. I enjoyed the time in the studio very much and I can say that feels like an addiction, the more I produce the more I want to spend time doing it.

Highlights?
Having the chance to do what I love would be the main highlight; however, I will say that playing at Sankeys Ibiza and reaching the Top 17 on a Beatport chart really made my year.

Lowlights?
The downside of spending so much time in the studio is not having too much time left to do other things, which I probably regret, like not being more in the DJ booth in contact with the people. I think this is at the end the real goal: to make them dance, and I love to see it.

Song of the year?
This is a very difficult one … but for the sake of choosing one I would go with “Midfield” by Luigi Madonna & Roberto Capuano (Original Mix) released on Second State.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I have a few projects that I want to finish, including a downtempo album. I would say that my resolution would be to organize my time in a way that I can have more fun with the crowd.

2017 Rewind: Stereo MCs

Stereo MCs

How was 2017 for you?
Nick Hallam: It was inspiring

Highlights?
Played a lot of live shows with Stereo MCs — feels better than ever. Did some great DJ sets, had a Connected label night at Watergate in Berlin — the first of many to come. Our Connected label went from strength to strength and all of this was fun.

Lowlights?
Has to be Donald Trump and everything associated with that type of politics, putting the world backwards 50 years.

Song of the year?
So many, but as it was on our label and it’s a great record: Drained EP from David Mayer

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
To only work with positive like-minded, forward-thinking creative people. Anything else just walk away!

2017 Rewind: Al Bradley

Al Bradley

How was 2017 for you?
Al Bradley: It was class. The 3am move to vinyl back in 2016 gathered further pace with my own release in March. Plus, I’ve had a steady number of originals and remixes out through the year. I’ve been nice and busy with gigs around the UK and overseas, including four in Berlin and also a debut at ADE in Amsterdam. Back home I’ve been playing regularly at Distrikt and 212 here in Leeds, the former where I’ve played for almost eight years now, so it’s been great on home soil too. Oh yeah, my radio show on Pioneer DJ Radio has been really picking up too, so I can’t complain at all!

Highlights?
I’m going to use some music from a gig I didn’t play at for this, but hearing Francesco Del Garda & TC-80 play at Distrikt in September was immense; the music was inspirational and the vibe in the venue was taken to a whole other level. On a personal note, being picked to be main artist for Midnight Social Recordings’ 50th release is really special.

Lowlights?
I was meant to be playing in Ibiza during summer, so I’d booked flights, etc. but then the gigs got pulled due to issues with the venues and I lost all the money I’d paid out. Bummer.

Song of the year?
Without any shadow of a doubt, it’s Bobby O’Donnell “Within, Without” on the Mosaic Split series, just an absolute beauty of a track. Top guy, too!

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
To aim for more original tracks coming out on vinyl where possible, plus the next 12″ on Mujina Code, which is a label I run with Phil Towers. Also to get planning the 3am Recordings 15th birthday (which is in June) and the corresponding release for that! Just to make all these things as good as I possibly can. 🙂 I don’t really make personal NY resolutions, so they’ll have to do!

2017 Rewind: Dev79

Dev79

How was 2017 for you?
Dev79: It was turbulent, eye-opening, frustrating and yet a very creatively charged year. So many things in so many ways, pushed me to think in new directions. And for that I’m grateful.

Highlights?
I wrote a lot of music, possibly my most productive year ever. Currently sifting over plans on what to do with all the material.

Lowlights?
Struggles of life and dealing with one’s own brain. Politics have surely been at a depressing low.

Song of the year?
HomeSick x Greazus x Sinistarr – “Jumanji”

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I don’t do resolutions but this year I’m certainly all about progression. I’m moving to LA to simply invigorate life with change and see what happens.
