Groundbreaking Jazz Musician Chick Corea Has Died

Chick Corea, one of the greatest jazz musicians, has died at the age of 79. According to a post on Corea’s Facebook page, the virtuoso composer, keyboardist and bandleader passed away from a rare form of cancer that was only discovered very recently.

Born Armando Anthony Corea in 1941, Chick pioneered jazz fusion in the ’70s with the highly influential group Return to Forever. He also played and recorded with a who’s who of musicians, including Herbie Mann, Miles Davis, Stan Getz and Stanley Clarke.

During the course of his lengthy career, he won 23 Grammys and was nominated over 60 times.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
