Henry Street in Brooklyn, NY—the borough where Big Shot happens to be based—is a quintessential New York City experience. Running from Red Hook to Dumbo, the street is home to housing projects and million-dollar brownstones, auto body shops and trendy boutiques, and people from every possible walk of life. The area’s diversity, grit and edge has been an influence for neighborhood househead Johnny “D” D’Mairo whose Henry Street Music has delivered dance floor hits from the likes of Armand Van Helden, Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, Ralphi Rosario, Mike Delgado and DJ Sneak for the past 20 years.
After marking two decades with 20 Years Of Henry Street Music: The Definitive Collection issued last year on BBE Music, the label has announced the upcoming release of a limited edition 7-inch vinyl box set. The thought of those five 45 RPM beauties going round and round on a turntable will no doubt cause vinyl collectors to hyperventilate.
Featuring cuts from the aforementioned legends and more, only 500 copies — that’s right: 500 — will be printed.
Our initial impulse was to ask for a box set for our collection, but we knew we’d be told in true Henry Street fashion “fuggedaboutit!”
