After entertaining an estimated 6 million clubbers since opening in 2005, New York City mega-club Pacha New York, whose Director of Promotions/Bookings Rob Fernandez tragically died in July, will close its doors in January 2016. No reason has been given for its closure. “The average nightclub lasts 18 months – we lasted 120,” said Pacha New York’s president Eddie Dean in a statement.“It’s been a wild ride that none of us will ever forget. Our final parties will celebrate the different artists, styles, and scenes that have made Pacha great.”
During its lengthy tenure Pacha New York was known for its state-of-the art light and sound system as well as regularly presenting globally known DJ talent. While the likes of Danny Tenaglia called it home, the venue’s bills were dominated by some of the biggest EDM acts in the world. In recent years the club has seen greater competition from clubs in Brooklyn, namely Verboten and Output.
In December, Pacha New York will present a month-long party honoring its ten-year anniversary featuring the likes of Puff Daddy, Carnage, Dirty South and Markus Schulz. A 72-hour marathon classics set Jonathan Peters is planned for New Year’s Eve, with a closing party in January 2016 promising a “who’s who of dance music, from past to present.”
