Premiere: Cascao & Lady Maru – “This Boat”

Seven years into their musical partnership Rome’s Cascao & Lady Maru continue drawing from their wealth of artistic experiences that span a range of musical genres and practices. Cascao, a sound engineer and actor, brings to the table a post-everything sensibility, while techno/house DJ Lady Maru has a track record of unleashing plenty of funk.

Later this summer the No Wave/electro duo will soon release their latest album, Spleenism, on San Francisco’s based Cochon Records. In the meantime, we’re pleased to world premiere “This Boat” from their upcoming masterpiece. A cut that morphs funk and electro into an urgent hybrid, their jam cuts like a hot knife through butter.

“‘This Boat’ is a visionary song about pirates walking between a boat and waterfalls,” explains Lady Maru. “It’s obviously blurred like a dream and has a light dark surrealistic atmosphere, even though the beat is pretty dancey and syncopated. I think we were spontaneosuly influenced by the residents and great bands like Nico Gomez and the Afro percussion, of course on our punk-wave way.”

Cascao & Lady Maru’s Spleenism will be released September 18, 2015 on Cochon Records.
