Premiere: Kenny Summit – “Piano on Fleek”

Dance music journeyman Kenny Summit has been there and done that during his storied career. From DJing at New York City dens of pleasure such as Limelight back in the day to cutting records with Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper, he’s remained true to the essence of house music.

Though he now calls Los Angeles home, Summit, who runs Good For You Records, returns to his Big Apple musical roots on “Piano on Fleek,” a ’90s flavored bomb which we’re pleased to set off. Hit play, close your eyes and allow Summit to transport you for a few moments to the type of track you’d hear on dance floors at The Shelter or Sound Factory Bar.

“I’m a child of New Jersey deep underground scene and cut my teeth at the world-famous Zanzibar,” explains Summit. “I’ve been cultivating my own style, my own sound for the past few years but always find myself going back to my roots: soulful house, real tracky stuff, lots of keys, the kind of house I grew up listening to Tony Humphries spin. The more I produce, the more I’m realizing that I have something inside of me that needs to get out. Lately, I’m even doing my own vocals in an attempt to give the crowd that same feeling I had back in the day.”

Check out Summit’s righteous jam below, and tell us if you can identify the origin of the main vocal sample.
