Premiere: Desert Dwellers – “The Great Mystery”

Desert-Dwellers-Gratitude

Since the ’90s Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe of Desert Dwellers have been proponents of an evolving, globally influenced downtempo electronic signature informed by dub, psy-trance, chill out, ambient and beyond. Friend has a lengthy list of music and art credits, including producing six installments of DownTemple Dub for White Swan Records, while Treavor Moontribe is a co-founder of Los Angeles-based Moontribe Collective, a non-commercial outfit who made an indelible mark in West Coast rave culture in the ’90s with their legendary full moon desert gatherings.

Having toured globally — in 2014, Desert Dwellers opened for Twisted Records artist Shpongle during a seven-week U.S. tour and performed at Burning Man, Coachella and festivals in Israel, Portugal and Canada — the musical partners are set to present their eighth album, The Great Mystery, on their Desert Trax label/Black Swan Sounds.

No doubt influenced by their many travels and experiences over the past two decades, the full-length, which features performances by Rick Hunter playing oud, singer Megan Chandler, violinist Hannah Thiem, Ixchel Prisma and Anuradha Genrich as well as engineers including Torin Goodnight (Bird Of Prey), Benjamin Last (Temple Step Project), Yulu Fershtat (Perfect Stranger) and James Lumb (of Electric Skychurch and one-time Big Shot tech editor) brings together the worlds of electronic music and yoga for a captivating result.

We’re thrilled to world premiere the gorgeous title track brimming with multi-cultural references, dynamic percussion and sultry grooves.

Namaste.

Desert Dwellers’ The Great Mystery is released exclusively on Bandcamp on March 20, 2015. The LP received its worldwide release on April 13, 2015.
