It feels like the world is spinning out of control. Thank goodness we’ve found solace in the downtempo bliss of Manatee Commune’s self-titled debut album out now on Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz Recordings.
A one-man act led by 23-year-old Seattle-based producer Grant Eadie, his luscious tracks featuring live instrumentation (he plays the violin) run the gamut of shiny indie-pop oozing with addictive synthy melodies to charming downbeat gems. Before kicking off a string of live shows on November 16 at The Cobalt in Vancouver, BC, Eadie told us about five fresh tracks currently on his radar.
1. Chrome Sparks – “All or Nothing”
Super creative mix of ’80s synths and heady, modern production. I’ve found myself listening to this song once a day since it came out.
2. Machinedrum – “Do It 4 U” (feat. D∆WN)
Fresh sounds from Machinedrum that are complex as usual but with a newfound pop influence that I’ve been really loving. His ability to make dinky synths sound cool is beyond me.
3. Kaytranada feat. Syd – “You’re the One”
All about that open mix, blown out percussion samples, and ridiculous bassline. Great vocal melody, too.
4. BJ the Chicago Kid – “Turnin Me Up”
This whole album is gold, but I love the vibes on this track so much. This tune can turn my whole day around and I’ve seen it flip many boring gatherings into chill dance parties.
5. Tennyson – “Like What”
Amazing musicians with unreal attention to detail. Reminds a lot of ‘The Books’ mixed with Adderall and a mild addiction to SoundCloud.
