We were shocked when the U.K. voted for Brexit, but we’re reeling from Donald Trump’s upset victory in the presidential election. While the mainstream media, analysts and pundits collectively poo-pooed Trump’s chances of winning — the New York Times predicted on Monday that Hillary Clinton had an 84 percent chance of winning — in the end they all got it completely wrong. Trump’s victory feels like a punch in the gut to those of us who see the world with optimism, love and compassion, not racism, misogyny and hatred. While Trump struck a conciliatory note in his acceptance speech, his prior actions negate us from lending his words any credibility.
