Video Premiere: President Bongo – “Greco”

SerengetiVideoStill

What if — at least for a little while — Africa’s legendary Serengeti region was relocated to outer space? That’s one of the questions that comes to mind as President Bongo & the Emotional Carpenters unleash their ode to the annual animal migration across the Serengeti. The album, appropriately entitled Serengeti, which was released last month on the AlbumLabel imprint. Odds are that you’ve heard President Bongo before, as Stephan Stephensen, is a founding member of Icelandic electronic popsters GusGus, whom he left earlier this year to pursue his own projects. (Recently, Stephensen was kind enough to provide us with an exclusive mix.)

The feel created by Bongo and company on the album combine organic, acoustic sounds with cutting-edge electronic technology for a dizzying mix of past, present, and future. And the video directed by Snorri Bros for “Greco” follows suit, blending ancient African imagery with modern visual effects to create something strangely timeless.

Video Premiere: The Suicide Of Western Culture – “Amor de Madre”

TSOWC

This month Barcelona psychedelic/post-rock/IDM duo The Suicide Of Western Culture release their third album, Long Live Death! Down With Intelligence!, on Primavera Sound’s El Segell label. TSOFWC’s sprawling new single “Amor De Madre” has been turning heads, and we’re pleased to world premiere the song’s accompanying music video directed by acclaimed film/visual artist César Pesquera.

“My video clip is a surrealistic and psychedelic hybrid between Paris, Texas and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind,” Pesquera says of the video. It tells the story of two characters who — moved by the desire of returning to the mother’s womb — travel through the desert in search of that primeval bond.”

Video Premiere: Lydmor & Bon Homme – “Dream of Fire”

Lydmor-and-Bon-Homme

What do you get when you put together Thomas Hoffding of Danish electronic popsters WhoMadeWho and up-and-coming singer Jenny Rossander? Why, you get Lydmor & Bon Homme, the duo that’s set to release its debut album, Seven Dreams of Fire, on November 6 via HFN Music. The pair’s blend of old-school synth-pop, disco, and house influences, among other things, makes their idiosyncratic brand of electro-pop stand out from the pack. The tune “Dream of Fire” boasts a perky-but-atmospheric feel, full of bubbling synths and the vocal give-and-take of the two principals. The video is equally evocative, cast in a stark black and white with a minimum of visual fuss, striking a memorable mood that perfectly complements the music. Check the premiere below.

Video Premiere: Pilocka Krach – “Do You Like the Beat?”

It’s okay if you don’t answer the title question the first time it’s posed in this video, because you’ll have plenty more opportunities during the rest of the track. But by the time you do respond, your answer will almost certainly be in the affirmative. It’s easy to imagine Pilocka Krach’s forthcoming single (due out Sept. 23 via Monika Enterprise) from her debut album Best Of finding a place in an abundance of DJ mixes, between its hard-charing, house-inflected beat to its electro-kissed synth lines, and of course that concise title mantra. The Berlin producer’s music video for the tune is equally arresting. She co-directed the clip, which finds her cavorting around in an impressive array of crazy outfits while engaging in what can only be dubbed anti-dance moves. FYI, Krach will also be doing an October-November residency in the Motor City courtesy of Musicboard Berlin and the Detroit-Berlin Connection.
