Track of the Moment: Roach Motel’s “Wild Luv” (Remixes)

roach-motel-wild-luv-get-physical

Twenty years after Farley & Heller paid homage to DJ Pierre, Wild Pitch and the sound that emanated out of the New York/New Jersey area in the early ’90s with Roach Motel’s “Wild Luv,” the club anthem has come full circle with a triumphant re-release on Get Physical.

Already something of a summer anthem, John Aquaviva & Olivier Giacomotto’s remix keeps the drama level high with a driving 4/4 groove and strings that won’t stop ’til they get enough.

On his solo mix Giacomotto adds plenty of dramatic breakdowns and growling vocals. George Morel strips it all down to a kick and hi hat, building the track from its signature line “Wild Pitch, I think I love you but I wanna know for sure.”

For those looking to get their hands on the original mix, fear not because it’s available once again in all of its glory.

Track of the moment!

Track of the Moment: DJ Anna – “Slow Mind” (Tronic)

DJ-Anna

Possessing a growing discography of original tracks and formidable remixes, São Paulo tech-house DJ Anna (check out Anna’s five artists of the moment on SoundCloud) scores big once again with her upcoming “Slow Mind” for Christian Smith‘s Tronic Records. Due out on June 9, the minimal, funky banger is part of Tronic Off Sonar Compilation 2014, a compendium featuring tracks by Arjun Vagale, Dosem, Ian O’Donovan, Project AKC and the aforementioned Mr. Smith. From the opening note, “Slow Mind” hits the ground running and goes straight for the jugular and doesn’t let up, building in intensity as the drums and pads simmer to a rolling boil. Track of the moment!

DJ Anna plays Tronic’s showcase at Boulevard in Barcelona on June 13.

Track of the Moment: Slam’s “Minor Interruption” (Bek Audio)

Slam Minor Interruption

Two decades into their musical partnership known as Slam and Scottish techno titans Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle’s show no signs of slowing down. “Minor Interruption” on Gary Beck’s Bek Audio is the twosome’s latest monster, a full-on assault brandishing a ginormous kick drum powerful enough to take down Godzilla. While it’s currently en vogue in some genres for a track to be all about the climatic breakdown, this beast is thankfully unrelenting from the first note and finds the Slam boys once again driving with the petal to the metal. As a synth line chugs away and a nasty bassline bumps along, this demon continually builds and is hell-bent on taking no prisoners. A minor interruption has never been more appreciated.

Track of the Moment: Jeff Derringer’s “Beat To Quarters”

Jeff Derringer - Beat To Quarters Electric Deluxe

A resident at Smart Bar and the founder of the five-year-old Oktave series, Chicago DJ/producer Jeff Derringer continues to push boundaries as a producer within the realm of techno. After collaborating with Raíz’s Vangelis and Vida two years ago on Electric Deluxe, Derringer makes a triumphant return to the label with this gallant four-tracker comprised of two original cuts and two remixes. The title track oozes with the sort of hypnotic digital funk and tribal rhythms tailor made for a dark, sweaty dance floor. On his interpretation, Rome’s Giorgio Gigli takes kicks things up a few notches, transforming the track into a relentless beast. On “The Stranger” Derringer comes out swinging with a monster track built on chugging beats and dramatic cymbal crashes. Voices From The Lake completely flip the script on their re-rub, reworking the track into a breezy, spacious offering. Techno doesn’t get any better than this.
