LCD Soundsystem Curates Beach Vibes Festival in Mexico

LCD Soundsystem beachvibes

It’s good to be LCD Soundsystem. Coming back from retirement to be embraced by an adoring audience can put a band in an enviable position of being able to pick and choose their gigs, and LCD has taken that notion to an intriguing extreme. They’re curating their own festival, but they’re not dropping their admirers into the California desert or anything; instead, they’re adopting a full-blown vacation vibe for the endeavor and holding the event in Mexico in the middle of the winter. Hey, isn’t that what you would do if you had your own festival?

The Riviera Maya on the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula is the site of Beach Vibes, which runs from January 26-28, 2017. The Barceló Maya is the beach-based resort hotel that is the home to the event, which features not only an impressive list of performances and DJ pool parties, but also “daytime local adventures” that encompass everything from catamaran and snorkeling to deep sea fishing and golf. Besides LCD themselves, the Beach Vibes roster includes Hot Chip, Carl Craig, DJ Harvey, Holy Ghost!, Horse Meat Disco, Tim Sweeney, Shit Robot, and plenty more. Pre-sale packages for the event become available 1Pm EST on July 8, and general sale begins at 1PM the following Monday.

Bob Moses Ready Expanded Version of ‘Days Gone By’ & Mini Documentary

Bob-Moses-DJ-set Governors Ball

bob moses

If you’ve always loved Bob Moses‘ 2015 debut album, Days Gone By, and wished there were more of it, your prayers have just been answered. Amid a busy summer for Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance that includes UK festival gigs in London and Glastonbury (New Yorkers, take note: they’re also playing Rough Trade East  on July 14), Domino Records is readying an expanded reissue of that record for August 19, featuring some intriguing extra material.

The duo’s trademark is a cunning blend of dance music and indie pop, so it’s no surprise that Days Gone By (Never Enough Edition) will arrive with remixes by the likes of Joris Voorn, A-Trak, and RAC. But there will also be three live versions of tunes from the album, an acoustic take on “Before I Fall,” and more. If you want to learn more about the band, they’ve also just made a mini-documentary about their recent exploits, Days Gone By – A Bob Moses Story, and you can also catch up on some Big Shot interview clips from their recent Governors Ball appearance.

Premiere: Evigt Mörker – Altaret Restes

evigtmorker

For the third EP release from Konstrukt, the Amsterdam-based collective that oversees both a party series and a label, you can expect two artists to come together, but it’s not really a collaboration. Dutch twosome Artefakt are sharing space with Swedish producer Evigt Mörker for the split EP that is Konstrukt 003. The four-track release finds Artefakt taking over side one, with their Swedish compatriot occupying the flip. And while the former’s tracks are more ethereal, Mörker brings some decidedly visceral beats and a deep techno feel to his track, while still maintaining plenty of atmospheric textures. The EP is out on July 1, but if you can’t wait that long, you’re in luck—you can catch a sneak peek by streaming Mörker’s “Altaret Restes” below.

Video Premiere: Fiona Soe Paing – Behrot

FionaSoePaing

The video for Burmese/Scottish producer/singer Fiona Soe Paing’s “Behrot” is as otherworldly, moody, and striking as the song it accompanies. Paing is getting set to release her debut album, Alien Lullabies, on the Colliderscope label on August 28. This track from the LP highlights not only her unconventional vocal approach but also her knack for crafting haunting, sometimes even unsettling electronic vistas. The “Behrot” video is full of surreal imagery, offbeat visual effects, and masterful animation, and it makes the perfect visual companion to the song.
