Erick Morillo’s Death Determined By Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida has determined DJ/producer/Subliminal Records owner Erick Morillo died of acute ketamine toxicity. His death was ruled an accident.

Morillo’s body was found at his home on September 1 by Miami Beach police.

Miami Beach Police Public Information Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said at the time that there were no apparent signs of foul play.

Morillo was arrested and charged with sexual battery in August for an offense on a fellow DJ that allegedly took place at his home in Miami Beach in December. The female victim “reported waking up nude on the bed, with Mr. Morillo standing on the side of the bed also nude,” according to the arrest report.

Morillo turned himself in with his attorney after the results of a rape kit came back and tested positive for Morillo’s DNA.

Morillo, 49, was scheduled to appear in court last Friday.

Video Premiere: Gargarin – Eskil

Gargarin - Eskil

With everything going on in the world right now, the timing couldn’t better for a new album from Gargarin, an ambient-dance project helmed by Graham “Dids” Dowdall.

A veteran musician who played with Nico in the ’80s, Dowdall, who is currently a member of avant-rock legends Peru Ubu and duo Roshi featuring Pars Radio, has collaborated and performed with John Cale, Ludus, Eric Random, Suns of Arqa, Band of Holy Jo and Low Bias.

Dowdall’s undeniable knack for crafting heartfelt electronica tracks rises to the next level on his brand-new full-length album, The Great North Wood (Geo Records).

The album’s title is a reference to the ancient forest of South London as well as “more mythical notions of the forest as a place of healing, safety, mystery and threat.”

We’re thrilled to world premiere the visually soothing video for “Eskil” from the new long-player. It’s exactly the sort of blissed-out, moody electronica we so desperately need right now.
