According to reports on social media influential Detroit house music DJ/producer Dwayne Jensen has passed away.
Jensen began his musical career as a drummer/percussionist in the ’80s. Not too long after he gravitated toward house music and was influenced by genre pioneers such as Frankie Knuckles, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Louie Vega and Larry Heard. Jensen was also inspired by hometown radio DJ The Electrifying Mojo, whose shows influenced a generation of house and techno artists.
Jensen went on to spin at Motor City clubs. He made a name for himself DJing at Luomo in the late ’80s. A decade later, he launched Fathom Records label — an imprint whose tracks mirrored his soulful sound — and produced cuts with an array of artists including Kevin Saunderson and Derrick Thompson. Other career highlights including regularly playing at Winter Music Conference and Movement in Detroit.
There’s no word yet on the cause of death. More on this breaking story as more information is made available.
