Sad news to report. Barron Machat, who co-founded Los Angeles-based experimental electronic label Hippos In Tanks with Travis Woolsey and served as the imprint’s operating CEO, has died. He was 27.
Hippos In Tanks, which took its name after a novel written by William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac, launched in 2009 and has released a stream of quality music from talented artists including ARCA, Dean Blunt, Hype Williams, Inga Copeland and Laurel Halo.
News of Machat’s passing was first reported on Twitter via Tri Angle’s Robin Carolan and Daniel Lopatin (a.k.a. Oneohtrix Point Never).
The cause of death has not been announced as of yet.
