Stefon Taylor is the one-man tour de force behind Bionik, a musical venture investigating the musical possibilities of trap, hip-hop, electronic, dubstep and beyond.
Taylor began his production journey as an intern at the famed Chicago Recording Company, eventually working with Grammy-award winning mix engineer/producer Peter Mokran (R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Flaming Lips).
Having lent his touch to countless studio projects for the likes of Phil Collins, MC Lyte, Lady Saw and Everton Blender to engineering and producing albums for Far East Movement, Ice-T, Too Short, Aceyalone, Treasure Davis, Ras Kass and Kool Keith, Taylor is stepping out on his own by unleashing Bionik’s high-octane full-length debut, Sonik Boom.
“Sonik Boom is my first venture as a truly ‘solo’ artist exploring the genres that have shaped my music,” Taylor tells us.
“Trap, hip-hop, dancehall and EDM all share common roots for me: loud drums and bass, angular melodic sounds and the ambient sounds of our urban environment,” he adds. “I have kept these elements present in my music throughout my creative journey. In the past, I always saw myself as someone who was behind the scenes, making magic happen in the studio for singers, rappers and instrumentalists. Now I want to bring that studio magic to a solo instrumental album and the stage. Creating, arranging and remixing my own all original music in a performance format is what inspired Sonik Boom.”
Listen below to an exclusive advance stream of Sonik Boom, and be sure to pick it up when it drops March 10 on Party Time Society.
During SXSW catch Bionik at The Contemporary Austin at The Jones Center for CTK Mission Matters on March 16 and Love Goat for Afternoon Ryde on March 21.
