HARD Summer 2014 Will Feature Jack U, Disclosure & Josh Wink

The lineup for HARD Summer 2014, taking place August 2 and August 3 at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in Los Angeles, has been made public. While headliners include many of the usual festival suspects — Diplo and Skrillex’s Jack U, Tiësto, Axwell and Disclosure — the bill is rounded out with sets from techno stalwart Josh Wink, Belgian mashup kings 2manydjs and hotly-tipped newcomer Gorgon City. Big Shot Magazine at Winter Music Conference 2014: Day 1 Recap [Photos]

Miami and South Beach are an especially welcome winter relief. A late arrival provided just enough time to hit up The Clevelander for a quick interview with Sydney Blu following her performance at her BLU Party 5 Year Anniversary. She was delightful and candid about her career success in her home country of Canada, her relationship with deadmau5 and a famous lady who inspired her to do what she loves.

Wednesday was all about the Sirius XM Satellite Radio Music Lounge at the W Hotel. It featured free-flowing tropical cocktails and beer sponsored by Smirnoff and Heineken, A-list and emerging artists, high-profile drop-ins and networking from some of everyone’s favorites in the scene.

Early entertainment came from MOTi who jumped right in with the funk-ridden “Careless” by Dusky. A string of rousing sets started with the duo of Dzeko & Torres (above) who featured a rendition of the former Ultra Music Festival’s promotional track “Sparks.” The rapid-rising and enthusiastic Martin Garrix was briefly joined on stage by Afrojack (below) as he played their collaboration “Elephant.”

The event was a highlight but some particularly shining moments came from Seven Lions (below), who managed to meander through with an intro track like “A Thing Called Love” while projecting an emotive stature then transitioning into a dubstep track with appropriate head-banging and hair flinging antics.

7 Pretty Ridiculous Photos from Tiësto’s Birthday Weekend at Hakkasan Las Vegas

A night out with close friends and family is usually how most people celebrate their birthday. But when you’re a millionaire baller DJ/producer like Tiësto — a guy who flies around the world in his private jet — you’ve got to roll a lot harder on your special day. Tiësto celebrated turning the big 4-5 this weekend by playing his residency at Hakkasan Las Vegas. At the stroke of midnight on Friday, Tiësto was treated to a massive fireworks display that illuminated the Sunset Strip. The birthday boy stood outside Hakkasan Las Vegas and posed for photos while fireworks light up the sky.

Coincidentally, Friday was also Calvin Harris’ 30th birthday. Harris was presented with a cake and got to pose with one of the dancers from the club.

Tiësto received birthday wishes from a variety of celebs who were in attendance, including pop star Joe Jonas of Jonas Brothers fame. Joe looks like he was having a blast, but give him some credit for .wearing earplugs and protecting his moneymaker.

Tiësto’s birthday party continued on Saturday night, and Joe Jonas returned with his brother Nick to whoop it up. Don’t they look like they’re having a blast?

What’s a birthday party without a cake? Nothing! Tiësto was presented with a massive four-tier cake, and he held it up in the air like he’d just been presented with the Stanley Cup. Talk about an Instagram moment.

When all was said and done, Tiësto put on his letterman jacket, a fashion staple every 45-year-old should have in their wardrobe, and proved once again that he had lived up to the motto emblazoned on his chest under his name: Work hard, play harder.

Space Opening NYC Outpost, New Clubs Popping Up in Big Apple

In 2010 Manchester club Sankeys announced they were opening a New York City outpost in 2011. Read their press release: “Sankeys has been organically built around the great traditions of New York… this is now our way of giving New York back what it gave Sankeys, with my own futuristic twisted twist of course…” Sankeys NYC never happened, but word on the street is that the owners of Space, which as every Big Shot reader knows is widely regarded as one of Ibiza’s best clubs, are planning to open a 13,000 square foot club on the west side of Midtown (at 50th Street and 12th Avenue, to be precise) in the building that never became Sankeys NYC.

In related news, the New York Post reports that EMM Group, owners of Catch Roof and SL, have joined forces with Pacha NYC and RPM Worldwide partners Eddie Dean and Rob Fernandez to launch Finale at 199 Bowery, as a serious dance venue with cutting-edge sound, video and lighting. The club opens on Halloween night with Heidi Klum’s Party with Questlove, DJ Sinatra and Nervo. The place will officially open on Nov. 8 with R3hab behind the decks. Marquee’s planned relaunch as a palace for EDM is moving ahead, with plans to reopen early in January with Tiësto.

Meanwhile, District 36, a failed multilevel Midtown club on W. 36th Street with a kick-ass sound system, is up for sale, according to BlackBook.

After a long drought, New York City’s club scene could become a little more interesting with more places for DJs to play. But with massive investment by club owners in a shaky economy, odds are likely that these new clubs will be focusing on big-name talent and bottle service.
