Now that London’s Fabric is back and firing on all cylinders after a heap of legal woes earlier in the year, the famed club has unveiled a killer summer lineup for its ongoing FABRICLIVE series.

Focusing on drum ‘n’ bass — a genre that all too often gets short shrift from big clubs — FABRICLIVE will feature a host of genre heavyweights including Grooverider, Roni Size, S.P.Y, Bad Company UK, Toddla T and a back to back set featuring Mampi Swift and Crissy Criss. The summer run will also feature debuts from Abra Cadabra, Nadia Rose, Kyrist, Upgrade and T>I.

This just in…fabric has struck a deal with Islington Council after it was shut down in September after two 18-year-olds died of drug overdoses in the summer.
Terms of the deal include fabric adding undercover surveillance as well as improved lighting and CCTV and ID scanners on entry. Anyone under 19 will not be allowed in and anyone found in possession of drugs will be banned from the club for life.

In a joint statement, the council and club said, “Fabric is committed to doing all it reasonably can to ensure that no more of its clubbers come to drug-related harm. It also recognises that there need to be, and will be, changes to its management structure and accountability.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement, “I am delighted that this agreement has been reached and that Fabric will now reopen. I have always said that we needed to find a common-sense solution that protects both the future of Fabric and the safety of all clubbers – as this does. I especially want to thank Islington Council for working so hard to come to this solution. In her first week in the job, my new Night Czar Amy Lamé held conversations with Islington Council, the Metropolitan Police and Fabric. My Night Czar will be working with other businesses, local authorities and Londoners to maximise the economic and social impact of a growing night time economy.”

On Facebook the club stated it will “be back with some news about #saveourculture and our next steps when we can.”

James Baldwin once famously said, “Be careful what you set your heart upon – for it will surely be yours.” After the shuttering of fabric in August, the team joined forces with their artist led Houdstooth imprint and decided to put out a call for tracks for a benefit compilation. Staring down a three-week deadline with no wiggle room, they asked for previously unreleased tracks, either brand new or an alternative version of an old classic. The response to their query was overwhelming, and the result is the upcoming #savefabric features cuts by 110 artists. Featuring tracks by DJ Tennis, Jesse Rose, Marc Houle and many more, the compendium represents the diverse array of artists who called the club home. The compilation’s release on November 4 arrives ahead of a court date that will determine the fate of the club.

Currently under threat of permanent closure after its operating license was suspended by Islington borough council following the deaths of two clubbers, Jacob Husley, a promoter and resident DJ at Fabric for the past eight years, has started an online campaign to keep the club open. The initiative is intended to let the council know of how much the venue means to the global dance music community. The council meets on September 6 and will share their reasons to push for changes to the license, suspension of the license or closure. Some of the biggest UK DJs — Sasha, Groove Armada and The Chemical Brothers’ Ed Simons — have taken to social media, asking London Mayor Sadiq Khan to save the clubbing institution.

“This is a time for all of us to have our voices heard together – and make sure we are heard,” stated the club in a missive. They’ve since started two hash tags — the appropriate #SaveFabric and ridiculous #nightlifematters. “Everything hangs in the balance. An enormous amount hangs in the balance right now and the world’s eyes are upon us all. What happens to Fabric happens to us all.”

Cameron Leslie, co-founder of Fabric, added, “Please take a moment to sign the petition on the link below and share with friends, family and fans, hopefully the London Borough of Islington and the Mayor will take note.”

So far the petition has received almost 85,000 signatures and needs another 65,000 to achieve its goal of 150,000 signatures. Show your support for the club by signing the online petition here.
