2019 Rewind: DJ Lady D

DJ-Lady-D

How was 2019 for you?
DJ Lady D: One of my most productive yet in terms of community engagement, philanthropy and leadership. I felt connected to the creative scene here in Chicago and at large.

Highlights?
I produced some remixes – one for the artist Randall Dean that will be released in 2020 – played some great house events, including San Diego’s Sunday Bliss and Chicago’s West Fest. Finally, I was included in an amazing feature in i-D/Vice on Chicago’s next wave of women DJs. [It’s now] more about inspiring others, since next year will be my 25th anniversary of DJing.

Lowlights?
All was on the positive side, keeping my head up.

Song of the year?
AmFlow feat. Koffee – Raw Uncut (Mike Dunn No Bakin’ Soda Demo MixX)

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
To cross off some bucket list items in 2020, including an album with old and new tracks and a retrospective of 25 years of service.

2017 Rewind: DJ Lady D

How was 2017 for you?
I had a great year. I stayed in demand and took on some new projects in music supervision which I’ve always wanted to do.

Highlights?
Teaming up with the Amsterdam-based ejrradio.com to host and produce my Chicago-centric house music show, The Chicago Connection.

Lowlights?
We had a lot of deaths. Very meaningful people in our dance music community are no longer with us.

Song of the year?
Undeniably, my dude Karizma killed the game this year with the Google commercial picking up his tune “Work It Out.”

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Yoga, yoga, and more yoga. Namaste.
