Big Shot Guest Mix: Ramiro Lopez

ramiro lopez big shot guest mix

Spanish DJ/producer Ramiro Lopez has been on fire this year. He’s released tracks on Suara, SCI+TEC, Bedrock, Sincopat and Cecille, remixed Moby’s “The Last Day” with frequent collaborator Coyu and has gigged all over the place. Currently leaning toward the techno end of the musical spectrum, Lopez is set to release the Sleaze EP crafted with Arjun Vagale shortly on Terminal M and his Backtrip EP for Carl Cox’s Intec Digital in October.

In between gigs and studio sessions the globetrotting Spaniard mixed an exclusive Big Shot Guest Mix.

Featuring upfront tracks by Hector, Tina V, Julian Jeweil and Richie Santana, the 15-track session is a sonic document of a DJ coming into his own.

Have a listen to his mix and check out our exclusive interview with Lopez below.

How’s your summer been? What have been the highlights for you?
Ramiro Lopez: Great! I’m really enjoying it. I’ve had a lot of cool gigs. I played at Dreambeach Festival for the first time — it was an amazing experience — and I’m playing in Ibiza at many of the Suara parties at Booom! It’s the first time Suara is doing a weekly party and it’s been awesome. I’m trying also to catch some sun and work in the studio between all of these.

You’ve remixed Moby’s latest (and helped interview him for us!) with Coyu. How did you approach this remix?
It was something amazing. Suddenly, Moby started to show big support for our track “Y.E.A.H.” on social networks. He has been playing the track at every gig. Right after this, we received the news that he would be interested in a remix from us. After everything was settled, we started to work on it. It was a big challenge. Moby wanted our grooviest side, and we did our best. We are happy with the results.

Is there a label or producer that has been influencing your music as of late?
There are many labels and artists I’m loving right now. I could say Drumcode and Adam Beyer are a true inspiration for me at the moment. However, there are a lot of other artists who are releasing tracks that are gold for me such as: Sam Paganini, Alan Fitzpatrick, Harvey McKay, Nicole Moudaber, Dubspeeka, etc. I also love Intec. Carl Cox is an idol for me. Jon Rundell and the Intec crew always do great stuff. And, of course, Suara. Coyu is one of my favorite artists, so I’m lucky to be close to him.

What inspired your Big Shot Guest Mix?
I’m very into techno right know. I’ve selected some of my favorite tracks at the moment from other artists plus you will find some of my upcoming productions on there. The idea has been to show what you could find in a Ramiro Lopez live set.

Big Shot Guest Mix: Crack And Crunch

crack-and-crunch Mario de Wit

Lebbeke, Belgium’s Crack And Crunch is a musical vehicle fronted by tech-house dynamo Mario De Wit. With a past that includes running a record and throwing parties, De Wit’s focus is now firmly fixed on producing minimal music and releasing tracks on his Hit By A Truck label.

Fresh from releasing C&C’s stripped down Wires EP, De Wit took time out to craft an exclusive guest mix featuring taut tunes by Jean Bressan, Joor Then, Alejandro Fernandez and Frink. Toward the end of the session he peppers in “Floating Electricity,” a track featured onhis most recent release.

“A hot lazy day gave me the inspiration for a mix reflecting a fresh crunchy trip,” says De Wit of his 12-track mix. “I prefer to play long sets, and I wanted to put that flow from warming up through building tension till that grooving peak in the mix. It has become a minimal tech mix, composed of new stuff, imbued in a cracky atmosphere.”

Crack And Crunch’s Wires EP is out now on Hit By A Truck.

Big Shot Guest Mix: Hank & Deck

Hank-&-Deck

Up-and-coming London-based tech-house DJ/producer duo Hank & Deck — Alex Bearman and Harry Bearman — have aligned with Simone Vitullo’s Italy-based Basica Records, an underground imprint famous for championing quality deep house and tech-house releases, to present the world with The Message EP. The title track was inspired by a visit to DC10 in Ibiza, with “Skips” influenced by Marco Carola’s Music On party.

Having played top London venues such as Pacha and Egg, their Big Shot Guest Mix flaunts their dark style that’s informed by a host of styles.

“We wanted this mix to cut across a plethora of underground house talent,” says the Bearmans, whose session features both of their blazing-hot new jams and cuts from Jonathan Cowan, Joeski, Sascha Braemer and Coyu.

“We built the first half of the podcast around the title track on our latest EP, ‘The Message,’ and so therefore it takes on a distinctly more tech-house approach. By contrast, the back end of the mix revolves around our other track ‘Skips,’ consequently leaning closer to techno. We draw inspiration from both styles and carefully utilize each of them when DJing based on the nature of the night.”

Big Shot Guest Mix: TWR72

twr72

Live and direct from Amsterdam is TWR72, a duo who’ve been refining a lean ‘n’ mean techno signature for the past several years. Comprised of two best friends Roger van der Zwan and Tom Doorschodt, the pair’s sound draws upon the lessons taught by masters from Detroit and Berlin and embellishes the insight with their own creative twist. Though BBC Radio 1 tagged their sound in 2010 as Future Techno — er, isn’t all techno futuristic? — the twosome continue to evolve their musical ethos in the wake of fleeting trends and fads.

2014 has so far been a standout year so far for TWR72: they forged remixes for JoeFarr and Nikola Gala, collaborated with Truncate and issued their Download EP on Turbo Recordings. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With the upcoming launch of their own label, Float Records, there’s no doubt that these techno titans are headed for even bigger things.

In this exclusive 15-track Big Shot Guest Mix featuring cuts by Mike Dehnert, Jonas Kopp, Exercise One, Benjamin Damage and two of their own productions, the guys give us a taste of their floor-rocking and uncompromising sound. “We love four by four beats with a never ending groove,” they tell us in the interview below. “So expect a mix that starts big and keeps on going.”
