DJ/producer/remixer Sean O’Neal (a.k.a. Someone Else) has passed away, according to a post on the Little Helpers Facebook page. The cause of O’Neal’s death is not currently known.
Based in Philadelphia, O’Neal was the co-founder of several indie labels including Foundsound, Little Helpers, Tuning Spork and Fuzzy Box. His sound spanned a wide range of electronic music, from minimal techno to deep house and electronica. Early on in his career, he was a member of electro-pop outfit flowchart. The band released music from 1995 to 2015.
During his career, O’Neal toured all of the U.S. and played dates in Russia, Argentina, Canada and Japan.
From 1998 to 2007, O’Neal worked as a music journalist. He contributed articles to XLR8R, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia City Paper and CMJ Monthly. He also did a seven-year stint working at 611 Records, a now-defunct record shop and label located in Philadelphia.
This is a breaking story that will be updated as information becomes available.
Very sad to hear the news about Sean O’Neal, aka Someone Else. He was a funny, creative, warm-hearted guy. Foundsound, Tuning Spork, Little Helpers were all proof of how he loved sharing joy, but didn’t take any of this too seriously.
