As the music industry continues to feel economic pain and uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF) is trying to help musicians and crew members.
On September 9, the nine-year-old festival released CTEMF 2020: Friends and Frequencies, a benefit compilation to raise funds for South African artists and crew members whose livelihoods have been impacted by the shuttering of clubs and music festivals.
According to CTEMF, proceeds from sales will be turned into vouchers valued at R500 to be distributed via Feed Our Crew to qualified recipients.
The massive 137-track compilation is modeled after the programming of the festival’s three musically diverse stages (Audiotorium, Terrace and Club).
Spanning a variety of electronic music styles including deep house, Kwaito, techno and broken beat, the release features contributions from South African artists Jazzuelle, Nyambz, Dank, Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and Crosby Bolani as well as tracks from global artists including Four Tet, DJ Food, Little Dragon, Charles Webster, Coldcut, Jazzanova, Rodriguez Jr. and Aux 88.
CTEMF 2020: Friends and Frequencies comes bundled with additional goodies, including mobile and desktop artwork created by SA designers, a Cape Town guide and 15 live performance videos shot at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town.
