UK-based drum ‘n’ bass DJ/producer Andy Williams, who DJ’ed and produced under the Andy Skopes alias, passed away on January 23. The sad news was announced on Facebook by his wife, Heidi, via Facebook.
According to the statement, Williams was diagnosed with cancer over 18 months ago. “Our lovely Andy passed away peacefully on 23rd Jan having battled cancer for over 18 months. He did so with such immense courage and positivity and was an inspiration to those he met along his journey.”
Williams’ career dated back to the ’90s. Among his many accomplishments, he released a variety of records on labels including Metalheadz, V Recordings, Fizzy Beats and Utopia Music.
A coterie of drum ‘n’ bass luminaries including Doc Scott, Bryan Gee and Tokyo Prose have extended their shock and sympathies at Williams’ passing via Twitter.
A memorial service will take place in the Sacred Heart church in Wimbledon (SW19 4LU) on February 7 at 1:20 pm.
Just heard the incredibly sad news about Andy Skopes.
Andy was one of the most talented producers in our scene and made some of the most beautiful dnb I’ve ever heard.
We’re absolutely gutted to hear about the passing of Andy Skopes – an incredibly talented producer and one of the nicest guys we’ve had the pleasure of knowing and releasing music from.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time ❤️https://t.co/vzdfb8SEta
