Forty festival goers attending the eighth edition of Subsonic Music Festival in Australia have been charged with drug offenses by local police. An annual celebration of art, music, culture and community held for three days each December at Riverwood Downs, Monkerai, police made the arrests with the assistance of sniffer dogs. The people arrested were allegedly found in possession of various illicit drugs, including amphetamines, LSD, Ketamine, cannabis and ecstasy.
“Police are disappointed and shocked with the number of people carrying drugs and personally putting their own health and the health of others at risk,” said Superintendent Chris Craner, Commander of Port Stephens Local Area Command. “Consuming a prohibited drug is extremely dangerous – you don’t know what is in the drug, how and where it has been manufactured, or what effects it can have on your body. The illegal activities at these events will put the future of any such event in this area in serious jeopardy.”
The 72-hour festival featured top-notch talent including Lee Scratch Perry meets Mad Professor, Goldie, Josh Wink, Jimmy Edgar and Seth Troxler, who had planned to skydive in order to raise awareness of Sydney’s lockout laws who many complain have negatively affected the city’s nightclub industry.
Seriously? “Police are disappointed and shocked with the number of people carrying drugs and personally putting their own health and the health of others at risk”. Are these police 12 yrs old??? People gonna do what they want with their own bodies, robbing and imprisoning them won’t change that. Also, its a freakin MUSIC FESTIVAL, every performer was probably high too. And why is cannabis even a concern when the festival was likely selling overpriced beer all day??
