Halcyon Makes a Move to Williamsburg

halcyon

Halcyon is a storied spot that was a part of Brooklyn when it was still Brooklyn (or before it became Brooklyn, depending on your point of view). In either case, the combination record store/music space started out in Carroll Gardens back in 1999 before eventually shifting over to Dumbo. But now, owner Shawn Schwartz is ready to take his DJ hub to its next evolutionary step by moving it once more, this time to South Williamsburg. On August 1, 395 Wythe Ave. will become home to the Halcyon Stellar Records Armory and Strategic Audio Center (still working on a good acronym for that one).

Adopting the interstellar theme implied by the name, the space has declared its mission to “arm Earth’s DJs with stellar records” with which to greet any “beat-thirsty master race of intergalactic crate diggers” that might find its way here. Of course, there will be a grand opening party, and while you can expect plenty of guests from Halcyon’s extended family to turn out for it, no names have been announced so far. You can count on the new spot to keep it Brooklyn, though: Close Encounters Wednesdays will be devoted to Brooklyn DJs and the many Halcyon-distributed labels.
