We’ve sung the praises of LA-based singer/songwriter/producer K.C. Maloney (a.k.a. Adult Karate) many times on this site. As he continues to nurture his electronic music-informed sound, he’s launched his own indie label, Elegant Regrets Music. His ambition is to release an eclectic array of music he believes in, ranging the gamut from dream-pop to post-rock.
Today, we’re thrilled to world premiere his shimmering nu-disco remix of the imprint’s debut release, Adaline’s “Part of You.” The duo have collaborated in the past on several AK tracks (“Del Mar,” “So Low” and “Friction”) so the musical union was a no-brainer.
“When [Adaline] asked if I would be interested in remixing [“Part of You”], I said yes right away,” Maloney recalls. “Her new sound is a bit more poppy and electronic so I was confident I could take that vibe and run with it. When I got all the stems I just had a feeling that it might work well as a disco-flavored track.”
The process was super-quick: “I wrote the bassline in my head while driving, and as soon as I got home, I recorded it on my Danelectro bass in two takes. The whole remix came out so easy, and I had a rough mix in less than 24 hours. It’s always such a pleasure working with Adaline’s voice; her tone and penchant for catchy melodies are unparalleled. I’m lucky to be able to work with her.”
Hit the play button and enjoy.
