5 Uplifting Deep House Anthems We Need Right Now, According to Michele Chiavarini

Michele Chiavarini

I’m going to spare you the hand-wringing we’re-living-in-unprecedented-times spiel. That sentiment has been conveyed ad Infinitum in every unsolicited bullshit brand email I’ve received since I entered isolation in March here in New York.

But do allow me to point out the obvious – how music has the power to soothe the soul and raise one’s spirits during difficult times.

When the chips are down, there’s no better genre to turn to than deep house to maintain one’s spirits. The style’s soulful roots, fluid grooves and simple messages never fail to elevate the mind, body and soul.

Fresh from releasing his rousing deep-house collaboration with Aaron K Gray titled “P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens)” on his recently launched SPRY Records, we asked artist/musician/producer Michele Chiavarini to share a handful of soulful tunes that are helping him get through the pandemic.

Frankie Knuckles – Your Love (12″ Mix) – Trax Records
This track has a strangely soothing atmosphere. It’s beautifully sparse, eerie and yet very uplifting. In my books. Jamie Principle’s vocals are the perfect touch.

Joey Negro – Must Be The Music (The Original Disco Mix) – Z Records
This is a song with great energy and uplifting powers. Also one of Mr. Negro’s most popular. I played keys on this version and the original one with Taka Boom, so I am particularly fond of it.

Ultra Naté – Free – Strictly Rhythm
This must seem like an obvious choice, but it is undeniable that this amazing song is exceptionally stirring. It has a great chorus that can always move and boost anybody’s spirit.

Michele Chiavarini – Let Me See You (Clap Your Hands) – Quantize Recordings
I don’t want to blow my own trumpet (or piano in this case), but this dish came outright. With a good serving of soulfulness and gospel music, great vocals and hook and the right degree of ‘muso-ship’!

Mi Casa – Turn Up (feat. Nathan Adams, Zepherin Saint) – Tribe Records
I just love this song, the chords, the vocals and its simplicity.
