Basti Grub 5 Tracks of the Moment

Basti Grub

Whenever a fresh Basti Grub promo hits into my inbox, I take note. The prolific German minimal tech-house phenom never fails to impress.

After collaborating with Timo Maas and Eric Volta on the standout 2018 track “We Were Riding High” released on mobilee, his musical output in 2019 has exceeded expectations. And we aren’t even halfway done with the year.

In March, Mr. Grub unleashed the funky-ass jam “Darling” feat. Crase Johnson on Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations; the Plarsch EP on Dubfire’s SCI+TEC label, a moody three-tracker full of spacey vibes and airy synths; and a remix of Ezikiel’s “Infinity Race.”

In the queue he’s got the Would Be An Angel EP, a sinewy and mesmerizing two-tracker featuring a collab with fellow Frankfurt mixmaster DJ Slowhand, out via Stripped Down out on May 24.

As he looks to complete his fourth full-length album, we connected with Grub and asked him to share his five tracks of the moment.

1. Ezikiel – Goree (Aprapta Remix) (Aprapta Music)

This is a beautiful, tense and edgy affair that always works its way into one of my sets. The Aprapta Music label is always on point.

2. Maayan Nidam – Dust & Dirt (Perlon)

Maayan is an incredible artist who I’ve followed for a while now. This track has an incredible spooky and mysterious vocal, with a tantalizing beat that pulls you in. Perlon rarely disappoints.

3. Eagles & Butterflies – Sketch1 (Innervisions)

What a monster from E&B! Perfect for the dead of the night, and one I’ve been hammering lots lately for sure.

4. Better Lost Than Stupid – Inside (Skint Records)

This trio always deliver and this first single of their upcoming LP is the perfect track to whet the appetite to what I’m sure is going to be an outstanding long-player.

5. Krystal Klear – Euphoric Dreams (Running Back)

A relentless bassline and a deadly snare. Krystal Klear has done no wrong recently so this is perfect for every set.
