How was 2018?
Kenny Summit: 2018 was a marquee year for the label, Good For You Records. We hit a few milestones including our 60th top 10 single and our 35th number-one release. Was a building year for me personally as I embarked on launching a new moniker for myself called Loves Last Episode, and I spent the second half of the year writing lyrics and producing songs that will come out in 2019. All in all it was a pretty good year.
Highlights?
The release of Paradise Garage : Inspirations was probably my biggest highlight of 2018. The album hit number one and stayed there for a month. The lead track from the compilation, the last record I ever worked on with Frankie Knuckles, a remix of Lou Rawls’ “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine,” was the number-one overall single for almost a month, and more than half of the tracks on the comp hit #1 in their respective genres. I also signed a deal with Ultra Records with my besty Eric Kupper for our duo group called Gut Feeling and released our first single with them “Yukata,” which was a staple in Ibiza with people like DJ Sneak and Carl Cox.
Lowlights?
Moving! After living in L.A. for the last six years I decided to move to a quiet, small fishing village in northern California. The move has been incredible. I love my new studio and waking up to the sounds of waves crashing on the beach is excellent, but the act of MOVING all of one’s possessions from one place to another is a fuckin’ nightmare.
Song of the year?
I had my head firmly planted way up my own ass in 2018, spending 99 percent of my time trying to mold new sounds making my own music … but when I did come out of the studio to get a breath of fresh air I really enjoyed listening to Blood Orange, specifically the track “Charcoal Baby.”
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Health is wealth! At least that’s what they tell me. I shed 30+ pounds in 2018, and I’m looking forward to parlaying that in the new year with a more regimented diet and exercise plan that includes lots of cardio like tantric marathon sex and swimming with the marine life in the Monterey Bay area of Cali.
