Mat.Joe 5 Tracks of the Moment

Berlin-based DJ/producer duo Mat.Joe — Johannes Schulz and Matthias Neitzke — welcome autumn in a big way via their brand-new release, “Disco Ballz.” Their red-house disco-house jam marks a welcome return to Nhan Solo’s mighty Mother Recordings, a label they’ve had a long-time association with.

Ahead of a busy month of gigs in Mexico and Colombia, we asked Matze and Johannes, who bring a passion for hip-hop and R&B to their productions and remixes, to share their five favorite tracks of the moment.

1. Armand Van Helden – You Don’t Know Me
Actually one of the biggest “Ohrwurms” of our childhood. Totally in love with these organic classic sample vibes with an incredibly soulful vocal on top. Also a big inspiration for our latest EP on Mother Recordings.

2. Something For The People – My Love Is The Shhh!
Haha…this was actually one of the first R&B tracks that made you feel brave enough to dance with the ladies on the floor. It inspired us so much that we made an edit, and this edit turned into our first big release.

3. Frank Ocean – Nikes
Damnnnn…what should we say about this guy? He’s just amazing and this track respectively the whole Blonde album is so good. Still on repeat! Frank Ocean is a big inspiration.

4. The Smashing Pumpkins – 1979
We love this video so much. It reminds us of the good old teenage days…private house parties and just freaking out. This song makes us feel free and forget about the struggles of life for a moment.

5. Nathan Fake – The Sky Was Pink (James Holden Remix)
When it comes to melodic tracks this might be one of the best ever. Heard it first when minimal was big and it was so different to the rest of the music that came out in that time. The mix and the sounds! Definitely an all-time classic!
