2017 Rewind: Scanner

How was 2017 for you?
Robin Rimbaud: Like other years before it was filled with surprises, adventures, new possibilities and collaborations. I closed the year by releasing two new albums, The Great Crater (Glacial Movements) and Fibolae (Pomperipossa). I premiered three sound installations at the oldest Tudor house in the UK at Little Moreton Hall, Leeds Railway Station and The National Portrait Gallery London, scored Christian Dior’s new catwalk show, soundtracked ballets for Lucy Guerin in Australia and Wayne McGregor in the UK, and signed way too many NDAs that stop me from sharing the really thrilling stuff!

Highlights?
Unquestionably taking part in the Robert Rauschenberg Residency on Captiva Island, Florida, located on the grounds of Bob’s former home and studio. I recorded a new album, wrote a book, Wrong Stories, and enjoyed temperatures of 30 degrees, woodpeckers joyfully hammering away outside my window, whilst osprey and vultures circled the sky above, for six blissful weeks. It was like a dream that I never wanted to finish!

Lowlights?
Some health scares which are never pleasant but I suppose that’s party of the price of finely maturing J

Song of the year?
I’m far more album oriented in terms of listening but have frequently returned to his hypnotic tune by Floating Points’ “Ratio” in all its 18-minute glory!

What’s your New Year’s resolution? `
I’ve never been one to make resolutions, but I’ve promised myself to learn how to use all of my studio gear, modular equipment and software!
