2017 Rewind: DJs From Mars

DJS From Mars

How was 2017 for you?
DJs From Mars: It was a great year. In 2017, we started focusing on our own releases. We had a great one on Polydor, with some big support from David Guetta, Oliver Heldens, Don Diablo and more. We’re happy with this new direction! Also, we made a mash-up called “The History Of Electronic Dance Music” which features 50 songs in four minutes, and we received huge feedback! The video has more than six million views and even Tiësto played it on his radio show! Also, we toured a lot in 2017. We were in Vegas at Flamingo this summer, lots of gigs in Asia, and Europe almost every week. So yeah we can’t complain about 2017, but we expect next year to be even better!

Highlights?
Probably the email from David Guetta where he says he likes our new single. When you make music, you never know what’s going to happen. Sometimes you love a track that you produced and it leads nowhere. Sometimes you release an what you consider to be an average song, and you have great feedback! So, this email from David Guetta was definitely unexpected. It’s a great pleasure to receive positive comments from someone who’s been dominating the dance music scene for more than 10 years! David Guetta is really a great inspiration for us. When we think that he listens to our songs and he likes them, we’re super motivated to keep up with what we’re doing, and even inspired to do it better every day!

Lowlights?
We were in Las Vegas the day of the shootings. On the first of October, we were in the airport in the morning, and after a 12-hour flight back home, we turned on the telephone and received hundreds of messages: “Are you guys ok?” “all good?” We didn’t know what happened so we immediately checked the news and we realized about that. It’s really sad when people go out to have fun and enjoy their time with friends and family, and someone doesn’t come back home because of someone who has a sick and evil mind. It should never happen, and we hope that people continue their lives and keep on enjoying concerts and events. The worst outcome would be people being too scared to go out and have fun. We hope this will never happen!

Song of the year?
There were so many good songs this year but we really liked “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars. It’s great when there’s such a big pop hit sounding like that, fresh and different, and in the same time also kinda retro. We can hear influences from Kool & The Gang, Zapp, Funkadelic, Parliament, super-cool sounds, but at the same time it’s something perfect for the radio. It’s a great crossover track!

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
We’ll work hard on new productions, originals and bootlegs. We’ll probably be more in Asia more than ever. It’s is a fast-growing market in these last years. We hope to find some time to enjoy time with friends, but we’ll be definitely focused on our music, so expect some news very soon!
