London DJ/producer/label mogul Riva Starr continues to up his game in every way on his quest for worldwide dominance. Currently riding high off the release of his I Believe In You EP released on his SNATCH! Records, he’s already hitting 2016 hard by releasing his remix of Pele & Shawnecy w/ Oliver $’s “Better For My Brain” in January and delivering The Superdope EP for Defected in February. We checked in with the man himself and asked him to talk up five tracks he’s currently living for.
Catch Riva Starr’s sets at Holy Ship in Miami on January 3-4 and the SNATCH! showcase at BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on January 8.
1. Astin & Waveshape – “Westwood” (SNATCH!)
Yeah, okay SNATCH! is my label but this is really the ultimate big-room banger. It has been a staple in Joseph Capriati sets at Music On at Amnesia (Ibiza) in the summer and all the big names are on it. It has a cheeky vocal sample from and some of the nastiest beats around making this an essential tune for your arsenal!
2. Paul C & Paolo Martini – “Pinball” (Hot Creations)
Italian duo Paul C & Paolo Martini can do no wrong. After a bunch of releases on hot labels around they’re back on Hot Creations with this old-school-meets-nu-school banger. There’s always something addictive to their basslines too. Check my reedit of “Take Some House” on Saved Records featuring one of their beats!
3. Patrick Topping & Green Velvet – “Shining” (Relief Records)
Homie Green Velvet teams up again with Patrick Topping after their previous “Voicemail” hit to deliver a dark funk number with a rolling bassline and cheeky vocals as per usual for another superb release on Velvet’s legendary Relief Records. Watch the crowd go mental with this.
4. Signal Federation – “Airbrakes” (Peace Division rmx) (Mighty Atim rmxs)
What a tune fellas! This is from 1999 but I found myself playing it again and getting a great response from the crowd! I’ve alway been a fan of Peace Division and this house tools is one of my favorite works from them. I love the filtered bassline and superb edit. Nice and simple—that’s how it’s gotta be!
5. Crystal Waters – “Gypsy Woman” (Trikk Back To The Traxx Remix)
Trikk is on amazing form for this cheeky little bootleg of Crystal Water’s classic “Gipsy Woman.” Tough raw beats and a dark bassline really gives a new lease of life to this song. Loving the off beat vocals. It’s a perfect end of the night tune!
