A few months ago Italy’s Enrico Sangiuliano (listen to his Big Shot Guest Mix here) and France’s Matt Sassari (pictured) released “Aries” on Jewel Kid’s Alleanza imprint. The taut techno track delivered a hypnotic groove, one so enticing that it was in heavy rotation for weeks here at Big Shot’s HQ.
Sassari, who has releases to his credit on esteemed labels including Sci+Tec, Tronic, Trapez and Rawthentic, returns in a big way next month with his Montarjan EP brimming with three tracks of proper stripped down techno.
Before the release of his new EP, we checked in with the Marseille-based mixer and asked him to talk up five tracks he’s loving at the moment.
Matt Sassari’s Montarjan EP is released April 9, 2015 on bouq.
1. Matt Sassari – “Montarjan” (Original Mix)
I like this track because it reflects my whole world. I made it using my voice, and I recorded a lot of weird things to make a new groove element. It’s a contradiction because the atmosphere is dark, but happy!
2. Reboot – “The Frenchie Thing” (Original Mix)
I’m French and so I like the title (laughs). I love Defected Records; I think it’s the best house label and this record from Reboot it’s simply amazing!!! The melodic sound of the sample is amazing and the groove is perfect. I can’t stop listening to it!
3. Roberto Capuano – “Around” (Original Mix)
This is a perfect track to get the dance floor moving. Roberto found an amazing vocal to bring the groove and a throbbing bass that keeps the track driving. It’s a great track to pull out in my sets as it really gets everyone dancing.
4. Simone Liberali – “Swan” (Mendo & Yvan Genkins Remix)
I love this duo!!! I play almost all of their records in my sets and this remix is one of my favorites. The groovy bells and atmospheric vocal create a really good vibe and the final touch when they break it down is sublime!
5. Johnny D – “Believer” (Original Mix)
I know my usual style is techno but my on a day-to-day basis I usually listen to house. So Johnny D makes me happy with this banger.
