In our 2014 Rewind feature Toronto house producer Demuir was stoked about Mark Farina releasing a pair of his EPs on Great Lakes Audio label, humbly sharing that “I feel that I have grown in many areas of my life and the progress has been reflected in my music and those I have come into contact with.”
Demuir’s maturation continues to soar in the right direction. Next month he kicks his career into high gear by releasing his Past To Future EP on DJ Sneak’s I’m A House Gangster imprint. On three riveting and diverse cuts doused with some seriously sick beats, Demuir explores bumping’ jack-astic Chicago (“Whatcuwhooooant?!”), deep house (“Drama Untied”) and raw dance floor funk (“The Cheerleader”).
In advance of his big release on IAHG, we asked the man himself to talk up fives tunes that are rocking his world.

1. Cuthead – “Presets Of Your Mind”
The title of this song should scream volumes about what these guys are about. S3A represents underground to the fullest and push boundaries as the easily incorporate broken beat drumming against beautiful sampling techniques. I first came across these guys on a release they did on Local Talk. Impressive tunes.
2. Liquideep – “You, We, I”
I first heard this tune at a friend’s gig. I’m still trying to get KaytroniK to give me this track! It’s brilliant with R&B, soul, Dilla samples, and stripped down deep-house beats.
3. DJ Las K – “Fly High”
I love DJ Las K’s French Touch and approach to production. “Fly High” is a prime example: very sample heavy and done with full appreciation and commitment to the music as it should sound. One of the best artists hailing from France who is doing things right.
4. Carlo Lio – “Who’s House” (SC Edit)
I had to give mention to fellow Toronto native Carlo Lio. I enjoy his jacked tech-house productions along with those of Nathan Barato. “Who’s House” is a perfect example of his sound. Great beats with a dose of funk and hard tech.
5. DJ Smilk – “France Vs. Africa”
I love Smilk’s groove in tech-ouse. There is always a soulful element and clever us of percussion and vocals. Choice track on this one with it rolling bassline to compliment.
