Paolo Rocco’s 5 Artists of the Moment

Paolo Rocco

Canadian DJ/producer Paolo Rocco has had quite a year. He struck house-music gold with his laid-back masterpiece “Caution You” featuring Wayne Tennant, with the lyrically astute song later receiving the remix treatment from John Acquaviva & Olivier Giacomotto, Terence Terry, Alix Alvarez, Lessi s., Ohmme and Bryan Kessler. In addition to mixing Get Physical Music Presents: Ibiza 2014, the Montreal mixer issued a spate of top tunes and remixed DJ Pierre’s “What Is House Muzik” with Jay London.

As he winds down 2014 and looks ahead to the new year, we asked Rocco to share his five favorite artists of the moment. Note the first two tracks are from the perspective of Rocco as a DJ and the other three are from the vantage point of a music fan.

Paolo Rocco plays StereoBar in Montreal on December 20.

1. Djebali
This record is just badass for my DJ sets. The drum and bass relationship has the perfect bump.

2. Point G
This has been one of my go-to my peak-time records for about a year and it never gets old. On a good sound system it destroys the dance floor whenever I drop it.

3. Flying Lotus
Away from my DJ side into my more personal listening taste. I love to listen to everything Flying Lotus does. Pure genius.

4. Physica
I loved the feel of this downtempo record so much I licensed it to close off the house compilation I mixed for Get Physical, Ibiza 2014.

5. Dali Darko
Young rapper from Pittsburgh I was introduced to by some hometown boys of mine (SaintWoods).
