Premiere: Dragosh – Josum

Dragosh Josum Perfect Timing EP

Nottingham, England’s Leftback Records celebrates its fourth anniversary in a big way with the upcoming release of Milan-based Dragosh’s Perfect Timing EP. We’ve been rocking an advance promo of his four-tracker for some time and it’s one of our favorite new releases.

A gifted producer who ably straddles the border of minimal techno and house (fun fact: Dragosh, who hails from Romania, works full-time as an optician), his impressive discography includes tracks on Mathias Tanzmann’s Moon Harbour, Loco Dice’s Desolat, Steve Lawler’s VIVa and Dana Ruh’s Brouqade. He also recently set up his own label, We or Us.

We’re extremely pleased to world premiere the EP’s opening cut, “Josum.” Over the span of eight-plus minutes, Dragosh lays out a focused, percussive-heavy minimal jam that’s as techy as it is funky. Get a first listen below and pick up the Perfect Timing EP on June 4.

Premiere: HAETHOR – Beautiful (Ruffian Ruffhouse Mix)

haethor beautiful

HAETHOR is the musical union of vocalist Amy Owens and producer/guitarist Howard “Merlin” Wulkan. The project is driven by their mutual passion for indie-pop.

The duo will present their self-titled debut album on May 25. Ahead of the LP’s release, we’re pleased to world premiere Howie Beno’s Ruffian Ruffhouse Mix of “Beautiful.”

Beno, a musical journeyman who’s worked as an engineer, remixer/producer and composer for Ministry, Depeche Mode, Grace Jones and Tom Jones, delivers an interpretation that’s dark and laden with industrial-strength breakbeats and operatic tension.

Beno says of his re-rub, “When Howard [Wulkan of HAETHOR] asked me if I would be interested in remixing ‘Beautiful,’ after I heard the song I jumped at the chance … it’s got such juicy bibs and bobs and an over-the-top stellar vocal performance from Amy [Owens] … Howard’s direction was perfect: ‘Dude, just go nuts.’ Well, that’s what I did!”

Premiere: Badin Brothers – Katonda

Badin_Brothers

Last summer we tipped you off to rising London-based house duo Badin Brothers when we premiered their tech-house track “Brotherhood Riff” off their Music Off EP.

Originally hailing from Paris, Scott and Olivier Badin’s robust sound has been tantalizing DJs and dance floors all over the world.

The duo are about to release their Caravan EP, and we’re extremely pleased to world premiere “Katonda” off their latest and greatest. The track is laden with slinky percussion, a wash of gorgeous vocal samples, and a wicked groove. These brothers are definitely workin’ it out.

Get a first listen below, and be sure to check the full release when it drops via Housekeeping on May 18.

Premiere: Gabriela Penn – Attack

we-are-cyborgs-mixed-by-yeni

We’ve been down with Swiss technocrat YENI from day one. From premiering DJ Emerson’s mindblowing remix of John Haden’s “Different World” last July (the first release on her Cyborgs In Love label) to giving the world a first listen to Andres Campo’s interpretation of her stunner “Axon” last November, we’re 100 percent #teamyeni.

In advance of the release of CIL’s upcoming debut compilation, We Are All Cyborgs! Vol. 1, we’re pleased to world premiere Gabriela Penn’s “Attack” (pictured below) from the 11-track session mixed and compiled by YENI.

Over the span of seven minutes the rising underground Dutch techno DJ/producer/live performer delivers a dark, hard-hitting banger that’s vacuum-packed with a fresh, funky groove.
